Alex Iwobi

Spot on

Thats Wenger's problem he awards young players who have achieved nothing big contracts too quickly.Wilshere The Ox and Walcott all on massive contracts have achieved fuck all at Arsenal. Walcott is on twice what Harry Kane is on

Iwobi may turn out to be a good player but let him prove it.We have had our fingers burnt many times before

Let's face it, if we won 1.5 m on the lottery, we'd use it wisely and feel we'd made it. Agree with both of the above posts, there is no incentive left when they earn that kind of money. Probably why Jack isn't too worried about getting off the treatment bed, except to go clubbing that is.

Now he really is like a new signing. We don't need anybody in the summer now!!
Incredible isn't it - now, I've been impressed by this lad lately, but if all you've got to do these days to earn a salary of £1.5m a year is play 3 or 4 decent games and score a couple of goals then no wonder so many young lads don't live up to their potential. Think about it, if you earned that money between now and 2021, we're talking £7.5m. How many years would you need to work after that ?

I hope he keeps level headed but the wages these days are just ridiculous for young lads
Agreed

It is only the last couple of matches that I've been impressed with him, up to then, for me, he just wafted around looking busy going nowhere.

30k a week? Ludicrous. It's not just that it is a typical bumper deal based on a handful of games - we just don't need to pay him that money.

Would City be swooping in offering 30k a week if we didn't? Would Barcelona run their 3-month PR campaign to tempt him? Would be Real's new galactico?

No they fucking wouldn't. We don't need to pay him 30k a week just like we didn't need to pay Walcott 140k a week and we don't need to pay Giroud over 100k a week because nobody else would dream of it. Wenger is just buying these players' loyalty and with it reducing their hunger.

Out of interest does anyone know what City are paying the young kid up front who has come off the bench and scored a few times? That's who I would compare Iwobi too in terms of his achievement to date

Just another....in a very long line......of piss poor managerial decisions by the footballing god Arsole Wonga. Iwobi will be at a 2nd division club inside of 2 years, when we actually have a couple of fit midfielders (or maybe even dump a couple of the perma injured ones....dare I dream) then Iwobi won't even get a game. Unfuckingbelievable Geoff! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Totally agree. This is Wengers pay structure. Sanogo on £30,000pw so Iwobi would expect at least that.
The myth about Wenger being shrewd and careful with money and that we were skint due to the stadium move pisses me off.

Of all the myths, lies and half truths out of the club it's the one that pisses me off most tbh. The AKB throw it out there as a defence of their Lord God Wenger; he had no money because of the stadium move. This, whilst he was pocketing £7m (now £8m) a year and paying shit like Almunia, Flappy, Mannone, Vela, Denilson, Song, Hleb, Arshavings, Bendtner, Gibbs, Djourou, etc etc etc huge wages and extending their contracts (with pay rises) long after they had all been exposed as sub standard shite.

I've said it a million times, I'll say it again; The money was there, Wenger mis-spent it.

Absolutely DB10 - for years we were basically neck and neck with Spurs despite spending 50m a year more on wages.

Doesn't sound that fucking shrewd to me.
