Seems to me that with some people are never happy. We are crying out for a player like this, someone ready made to be able to step in the backline whether there is an injury. Senderos has had so many chances to prove himself at Arsenal, and constantly dissapoints with his classic '1 costly mistake'. Djourou is a good player, whether he's completley ready now is up for debate. This would take pressure of Clichy,Sagna and the centre backs so we wouldn't have a repeat of last year and have these players getting knackered around febuary. Injury prone? maybe but if he's not completley regular then that shouldn't be a huge problem.

I don't think this is the signing Wenger was talking about, all the reports hint that Wenger found out about his availability yesterday and decided that he would be a good adition. If we sign him and then add a midfielder I think our squad will be looking a lot stronger.

Btw, United probably don't want to sell him but he'll walk away for free next year. Still it seems very out of left field, so havign wrote all that it probably isn't even true!!

Huh ?? :? :? :? :? :? :?

Listen lads/ladies I know we are badly lacking in experienced players and cover at left full both of which he can provide but I still aint convinced that it is a good move for us. We have all gone on in the past about the need for players to hit the ground when called in as a replacement (mostly when referring to senderos it should be said) so how can we expect silvestre to be ready to step in like that considering he hasnt played much in the last 2 seasons and will presumably be only a back up for us as well ?
We are also told that wenger's kitty is also meant to cover wages and I look at a transfer fee of £750k plus 50k per week (total £3.25m approx) which would probably buy shay given from the geordies and he would step right into the team as opposed to the subs. If we have little funds then it should at least be prioritised to make our 1st team rather than our squad stronger

Its true......I genuinely disagree with you on something!

If this is the one extra signing that Wenger spoke of then yes I will be fucking fuming but like I said before if not I see this as a decent bonus.

Ok maybe he hasn't played much over the last couple of years but neither has Van Persie. He no doubt has had a decent pre-season and should be somewhere close to fit.

Think of all the times we have b een left woefully thin of any experience at the back let alone any real class and maybe you can see where I am coming from? The times we have been forced to play a Song, Gilberto, Flamini or a struggling and out of form Senderos (even at right back, remember that?) When we was crying out for someone like this.

Nobody can doubt the guys pedigree and nobody should worry about his age, we didn't with Adams, Bouldy and Keown!

I am not saying that this guy is the answer to our prayers but I do not see why he Silvestre and Gallas could make at least a good a pairing as Gallas and Toure. In fact I think it would be better if only for the short term.

We are not going to get the ideal signings Augie mate, we both know that. This as a stop gap though I can handle with ease. We have often spoke about the depth of squad and how we used to have the Grimandi's, Garde's and Linighan's to call upon trustfully when needed. Can Silvestre not work in the same way?

Chamions League Semi-Final 2nd leg and we are winning on the away goal rule with ten minutes to go and Kolo gets injured and cannot continue! You look to your bench and who would you want there.....Senderos, Song or Silvestre?

Don't need to tell you my choice do I!

The more I think about the sight of him in an Arsenal shirt the more sick I feel. Sol was different, he pissed on Spurs and joined us. ManU're probably lauging their head off getting rid of Silvestre. It also bothers me a bit he just come here because he can join up with half of France.

I Would much rather have Phillipe. Ive got a lot of time for Senderos. I believe getting silvestre wont solve any issues we have just, add to them. I did hear somewhere that hes agreed terms wit us, whether thats true or not, i hope not.

Well fuck me what happened to "Arsene knows" boys?

Look if he doesn't work out then fine but the outlay is peanuts in football circles!

Nobody minded when Wenger took a punt on Mendez, Grondin or even Bischoff so why should this be any different?

We are desperate for a back up left back....Silvestre can cover that. He can also play centre back, so it's just another option in there for us.

If he's not the only signing that we make, then fair enough...lets get him.

But we have a gaping hole in our midfield, so lets hope that we sign a midfielder too.

Assuming I fit into the "Arsene knows" category, I've already said I agree with you.

I need to go and have a lie down....

I don't think this would be a bad move for us, although I'd be gutted if it was the only move we are going to make.

Silvestre is a stocking filler not the main present we are expecting.
