THE BOARD - Kroenke, Usmanov and Finance

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I took the comments directly from the Metro article and copy pasted them over, check for yourself.

I always compare us to United but if we swap them for Liverpool we will see the way money can ruin the club very quickly. They have seriously no players. If dirty Suarez gets injured then my god they are in trouble. Spending 32 Million on a player and finding out next season that you wont pay his wages so you loan him to another Prem club is the worst footballing deal I have ever witnessed.
If we would have been able to actually sell Squallachi, Arshavin, Chamakh, Bendtner and Park then we would have got a couple of big signings I am sure. I know Wenger gave them the contracts but its actually the players who failed to raise their game to our standards.
I firmly believe Kronke will be really bad for Arsenal and Usmanov must get a chance but I just dont see it happening.

Don't bother, baba doesn't let the small issue of facts get in the way of a good rant.

At a certain level, we can’t compete.

That is what PHW said not at all levels, but at a certain level which is true. If Arsenal went head to head with Man City over a player would Arsenal win, more often than not no would be the answer.

I think fans have preconceived ideas about PHW and just come out with the usall anti PHW comments no matter what he says. He goes on about how he thinks Arsenal can win the PL this season, could the headline of been "Arsenal chairman confident of title challenge" but again fans would of come out and called him senile for suggesting that.

He points out David Dein would of rather ground shared at Wembley. Saying he doesn't like Wembley and it's too far away. Which again is true(IMO) I would of hated going their for our home games.

The only bit I disagree with is his quote on the board not worried about the seven years without a trophy, but he says that because we can't compete at certain levels in the transfer market we have to look at different ways. These different ways obviously take time and that is what they are giving Wenger. Yes they could of sacked him say 5 years ago and got somebody new in but does that garentee sucsess no not nessaceraly. We could be sitting here moaning that PHW sacked Wenger to soon and he should of been given more time. As with most things with Arsenal hindsight is a wonderful thing

There is a huge difference between "not competing" on certain levels and finishing 19pts behind the top 2 clubs in the league. Nobody expects us to go head to head with citeeh for a player and come out as the winner but we seem to have given up going after any top level player. We are now being outspent by almost every club in our league and that is unacceptable and the way deals for mata and vertoghan collapsed is embarrassing and were it not for arteta taking a wage cut then he would not have joined either   :banghead:

There is a perception that all of our complaints about wenger and the board are down to a lack of spending and that is plain wrong. Our issues include a lack of tactics, a loyalty to sub standard shite and a total embarrassment of a contract negotiation system. All these issues are conveniently ignored and forgotten by a board who fail to who hold anybody accountable for continued mismanagement but instead choose to hide behind financial prudence and this fair play bullshit instead of doing what they are meant to do

Interesting article here by Marcotti, which may show some of the potential effects of FFP
Guess we will see what happens over time, but things do seem to be changing in some quarters
