According to @TheTransferEx, Eddie Nketiah is in talks with Wolves over a permanent move. The Gunners are looking for in the region of £15-20m for the player. #Arsenal https://t.co/uE9WwDXpRf

Shit money. Liverpool get that for players who have never kicked a ball for them. Rate him or not (I don’t) he’s England’s U-21 all time record scorer so stump the fuck up.mcdowell42 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 7:42 amAccording to @TheTransferEx, Eddie Nketiah is in talks with Wolves over a permanent move. You'd think so wouldn't you? Didn't they get £15m or more for Solanke?rodders999 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 8:18 amShit money. Liverpool get that for players who have never kicked a ball for them. Just watch our nerds settle for £12m paid over three years. Wouldn't trust our clowns to ever realise the true value of a player

Yep my two favourite transfers of all time - Solanke - £19 million and Jordan Ibe - £15 million.SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 8:45 amYou'd think so wouldn't you? Also the victims stung Sheffield United for £23.5 million for Ryan Brewster, that's going well - 13 games - zero goals, zero assists.
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Ryan Brewster lol mind you lets all laugh at Arsenal with Pepe

No big club was interested in Pepe, nor Saliba. Saliba could well come good, I read a few glowing reviews about his potential from established names in the game but Pepe.....FFS, that was a shocking transfer. NO-ONE in the French league is worth 70m apart from Mbappe who is a generational talent. I do genuinely think that there should be an investigation into that transfer.
Where does that leave the unknown martinelli ?
There is a certain amount of contradiction/hypocrisy in some of our arguments here - on one hand we have rodders (correctly) pointing out that the victims are able to flog some of their unproven young players for more than we are supposedly looking for nketieh (who most of us say is not good enough, but on the other hand we are criticising our club for paying a higher fee for an unproven player. Reality is that we cant afford to buy proven talent and clubs know that - in theory there are a lot more proven players in the market that can be bought (if you have the money), but there isnt as many young players with real quality potential, so clubs will always take the piss with the asking price for these players.
The second point that I keep coming back to is this totally unfair comparison with pepe and I have a real issue with it tbh - pepe has played 62 competitive games since his arrival, so I think that it is fair to say that he has had plenty of chances and has shown that he is nowhere near good enough. Saliba has not had one minute of competitive football for our first team and people think that is enough to label him as not good enough/shite ?? Serge Gnarby played 18 games for us and there was barely a tear shed when he was sold, but now he has turned into one of the best players in his position in the world - he never got a chance with us cos we had a cock in charge who didnt rate him and preferred other players in that position, and that is a cock up that should haunt the club for a long time. If GG was our manager now and wasnt on for giving saliba a chance I would be more sceptical of the boy's talent purely cos bringing through young hungry players was the foundation of GG's philosophy - despite what some would have you believe arteta isnt (or at least wasnt) keen on going with the younger players and would rather play experienced shite players even though they were contributing nothing to the team. I am loathe to write off a player based on the judgement of a man who rates xhaka, willian, and for a long time mustafi and kolasniac
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Nice kick off away to Metz just after our cup match with Newcastle finishes . Lets see if Saliba either gets in or a place on the bench and try to get a stream to watch it.

Well I would have thought that the reason lpool get more for their youngsters is that they will be on starter wages, in the region of five to ten grand a week, not like our nketia who will probably be on 60 to 80 grand a week, millions of pounds in difference per season let alone over the course of a five year contract.
We are well known for overpaying outer youngsters, even the ones that have never made a senior appearance.
Just a guess.

I think you'll find the "Great Economist" and his £17m for Perez was right up there with them! Think of that 'resale value' though......all £3m of itrodders999 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 9:20 amYep my two favourite transfers of all time - Solanke - £19 million and Jordan Ibe - £15 million.SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 8:45 amYou'd think so wouldn't you? Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Over the years we have had many players that have left us and we would have wished a ton of bad luck and injuries on them (cashley and the rapist are of course 2), but generally speaking those players have had to do something wrong by us or the club to attract that level of hatred - I really cannot understand why any fans would want saliba to fail cos he has never bad mouthed the club or treated us badly, yet it seems there are some who do want him to fail
This kid might be a quality player or he could turn out to be a total dud, but he didnt set the price, has never refused to play or train, and has never gone to the media (at least not yet) lambasting all and sundry for his exclusion from all squads - if he isnt good enough for us then so be it, but I hope the kid does well wherever he goes in the same way I will if nketieh or pillock ever leave. I dunno if some fans have turned against him cos there are fans very critical of the way he has been treated, or if it is because of the regime that bought him, or if it is the fact that he is from the french league and we have been burnt there lately, or if it is just the fact that some fans have undying loyalty to arteta and are siding with him on this issue - imo given the fact that we have neither seen nor heard from him, it is embarrassing to hear/read fans expressing dislike for him as a person and wanting him to fail

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Despite this justified slagging off of our selling value, we did get £20m for Theo, £35m for Iwobi and £35m for Chamberlain. All squad players at their clubs.
£20m for Nketiah is good money. If he was worth any more surely we'd want to keep him?? He is about as established as Solanke, Ibe and Brewster who all has significant loan spells and got games under their belt, Eddie hasn't. Will he be the next shearer or the next Jeffers, only time will tell.

And zero for Ramsey, zero for Alexis, €27m for Fabregas (absolutely scandalous), £16m for Martinez (equally scandalous)
Iwobi in fairness was a genius sale, albeit I thought it was £28m as the reported fee. Either way, that was an absolute steal. Thank the lord for Everton !
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Ramsey played us and has done a great job keeping the bench warm at juventus. Thought we got £40m for Cesc.SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 1:51 pmAnd zero for Ramsey, zero for Alexis, €27m for Fabregas (absolutely scandalous), £16m for Martinez (equally scandalous)

Martinez had only played 16 premier league games in 10 years at the club, I thought £16m was a fair deal. It's not like he was an established keeper like Joe Hart who was signed by both burnley and spurds for free.
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
But a better keeper than Jordan Pickford.....who somehow managed to go for £30m a few years back? Keeping the bench warm at a club that have won seven titles in a row is fair game - listen, i wasn't his biggest fan but the point is that he was one of the few saleable assets we had from that time. Joe Hart's career has gone so far downhill mate, I don't think you can even compare him.Nos89 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 1:58 pmRamsey played us and has done a great job keeping the bench warm at juventus. Barca pulled our pants down with Cesc - we were still chasing them for cash 2 years later despite the fact that at the time he was one of the best midfielders in Europe
