Re: Abou Diaby
He's the new Vieira you know

Re: Abou Diaby
from his perspective, what did he do to deserve this.
The broken ankle left him struggling to string games together for years and years and now he ACLed his knee in training. That sucks!
He is fortunate that he has always had arsenal there to pay him whilst he attempts to get over injuries, people not from the footballing world get nothing.

Re: Abou Diaby
Why has he been given 2 contract extensions if Dan Smith ended his career in 2006???? Hmmmmmm

Re: Abou Diaby
Oh that makes it all OK then. Wait, where's my wallet? Let me give yet even more money to a guy who contributes nothing to my team. What a fortunate little soul he is that we can all support him financially.Supagoon wrote:He is fortunate that he has always had arsenal there to pay him whilst he attempts to get over injuries, people not from the footballing world get nothing.
This guy is a symbol for modern day Arsenal. Zero to average talent, hugely overpaid giving nothing in return. And nobody at the club has the spine to cut him loose.

Re: Abou Diaby
This. Even when Diaby was fully fit I don't ever remember anything for me to say we lost a world class player. On his day he could run teams round in circles. But "his day" was about one in every 15-20 matches. The rest of the time he was lazy, didn't track back and was sloppy in possession. We should have cut him loose years ago.Dan_85 wrote:Oh that makes it all OK then. Wait, where's my wallet? Let me give yet even more money to a guy who contributes nothing to my team. Re: Abou Diaby
you mean the now retired Vieira, rather than the one that won two doubles as a player, yeah ?rodders999 wrote:He's the new Vieira you know
i have never ever been impressed by him. i think his main attributes were that he was tall and french and in midfield.
i'd so glad we keep buying these french africans of such super quality rather than the likes of Essien, Makele or Ya Ya.....

Re: Abou Diaby - injuries
I used to feel some (not much!) sympathy for Diaby. The injury he suffered in 2006 was appalling and it was the result of a deliberate assault by a truly awful "footballer".
BUT - this says much, much more about Wenger's appalling judgement.
* Quite why Wenger has kept faith in Diaby is a feckin' mystery
* Diaby has played about 6 good games in his 7 years at Arsenal but he has had his contract extended twice.
* He is currently on £60,000 a week (£3million a year!) which is a ridiculous contract
* Wenger eulogises about "Diaby's return" as if we've just signed the best DM in the world
Maybe Wenger behaves like this because we don't make enough fuss about the colossal waste at our Club

Sad news.
Does anyone know if SteveO has been put on 'suicide watch'?

Re: Abou Diaby - injuries
Gutted for the lad
- it's not his fault he's had his career ruined by injuries
and although £millions is a nice cushion to soften the blow, I think it's just very sad that a player blessed with real ability has never been fit long enough to show it.
I really hope Quartz is correct about his contract expiring in 2014 and not 2015, because there's no way in the world anyone would take him off our hands and I'm not entirely sure whether cancelling his contract is an option anyway.
It's ridiculous because we've been saying it for years
but lets hope Wenger finally realises he can't rely on Abou and brings in a proper replacement.
Poor chap. Gutted for him

Well done to all concerned
This I agree with - if we were not pissing a shed load of cash away on the guy then I would have nothing but sympathy for him but the simple fact is that as an employee of the club and is providing zero return on his investment. The CIC has consistantly awarded the guy contract extensions and has been constantly been bitten on the arse over it just as he was last season when he awarded a new contract to rosicky only to see him return to the treatment room for 6 months

Either pay him off or put him down

How about this quote on the BBC website
"Diaby's latest injury setback leaves Arsene Wenger without several key players."
Since when has Diaby been a key player?? Why do we (the fans) and the media go so feckin' easy on Wenger? Why don't more people question his appalling judgement?
Can anyone imagine Ferguson or even George Graham putting up with it?

This guy won the lottery when he signed for us.He has started 92 league games in 8 seasons yet has taken at least £12m in wages.Instead of feeling sorry for him think about the Gooners who have lost their jobs in the last 7 years while he has been picking up £60k a week sitting on the treatment table.Do you think he will quit now instead of taking another £3m out of the club till his contract expires. Is that a pig i see flying?

Re: Abou Diaby - injuries
Well I do feel sorry for him because no amount of money in the world can compensate him for the loss of a playing career, which is effectively what happened to him after he was tackled in 2006.donaldo wrote:This guy won the lottery when he signed for us.He has started 92 league games in 8 seasons yet has taken at least £12m in wages.Instead of feeling sorry for him think about the Gooners who have lost their jobs in the last 7 years while he has been picking up £60k a week sitting on the treatment table.Do you think he will quit now instead of taking another £3m out of the club till his contract expires. Is that a pig i see flying?
He is as you say financially comfortable and might make a career in management though.
The club has a duty to him to get him fit again, simply as a means to walking in non-footballing life.
But then yes, I think he should retire from playing.
