Well I do not think it would be fair to sign a world class striker and drop Giroud, he is in great form and I think Ba would be steady back up for him. He has got goals at West Ham and Newcastle and I actually do rate him.MrT wrote:Am I the only person who does not rate Demba Ba? I put him ahead of Bendtner, Park and Sanogo and, while taking your point, will accept it is a positive move.MrT wrote:Am I the only person who does not rate Demba Ba? Do not want another Chelsea reject, just about managed to stomach Benayoun.

Importantly with such an early and low pressure signing Ozil will be able to adapt to the team and league gradually with no pressure.....

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
Isn't this the guy that was mentioned in the same breath as Arsenal & Transfers yesterday!?
"Uruguay international Abel Hernandez has told Palmero he wants to leave before the transfer window shuts.
The 23-year-old, who has been linked with Premier League duo Arsenal and Sunderland this summer, has revealed that he hopes to move on.
"The club and the coach told me that I could leave if the right offer was made and I think that has now arrived," the striker told calciomercato.it.
"They know what I want and they know what they promised me."
Genoa and Sassuolo are said to be keen on giving Hernandez the chance to return to Serie A following Palermo's relegation last term.
"I don't want to lose the chance of playing at the World Cup next summer," he said.
"I think playing in Serie A is beautiful, but the desire to be at World Cup 2014 is what has pushed me to ask for a transfer."

Justin-AFC wrote:Firstly last night was a drunk rant. I had a lot of beer celebrating our win and possibly signing Ozil. I didn't mean to say that anybody wasn't a real fan, it just some people and I am not saying on this forum, are never impressed. Ozil is the big name we have been crying out for and with Jack's fitness maybe he is a player we do need, amongst others. I am not getting too excited but I certinly have not seen Arsene show this much ambition in a long time and maybe he finally listened to the fans and instead of signing somebody who isn't even born yet, he realises that we have lost a lot of big name players and now it time to bring in a big name for a change. Ozil, a decent defender, back up for Giroud (Demba Ba perhaps), and who knows maybe even a winger and I would be over the moon tonight.augie wrote:northbank123 wrote:Likewise - I certainly wouldn't complain if we signed Ozil because he's the type of player that the top 3 clubs are dreaming of attracting there and is sheer class. I think it's safe to say he's the type of signing everyone would get wet thinking about him playing and frankly for all our 'stability' our lack of signings has understandably harboured little excitement amongst the fans.DB10GOONER wrote:I'd love us to sign Ozil as he is a top top world class player. But we are in far more need of a top class keeper, another CH, a striker and a left back that can actually cross more than 1 ball in 100.
But I'd still judge this window as a failure because we've not strengthened the areas we need to and we're absolutely not going to win the league if we play Szczesny in goal and Giroud as a lone striker.
According to justin AFC that means you lads are not real fans
Some of you guys really need to learn how to carry their beer better

Anyway, I have been calling for signings for a few seasons now and the retort from the akb was always that we (wob) were too focused on signing "names" instead of focusing on better but less well known players - their argument was bullshit btw but the signing of ozil (who is top class no doubt) strikes me as a signing to quell the fan unrest rather than a signing with a strategic plan. Positions and positional needs should, in my opinion at least, dictate our transfer policies and I don't think this is the case here

If there's a chance to bring in a top class striker - do it! If Giroud is good enough he will still get time on the pitch and if he's not good enough why should he be on the pitch anyway.
FFS Özil!!!!

Mesut Ozil played more key passes last season (78) for Real Madrid than Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Cesc Fabregas combined (75) at Barcelona.

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
I think I am prepared to accept the title of most miserable Gooner if we end up signing Ozil for £42.5m, Viviano and Ba
Rationale:
1. How do we play Ozil and Santi. The one area of the field where I think we've already got genuine top quality and we buy another.....meaning inevitably one of them being played out of position or not at all. I like Ozil as a player but is he really what we need to blow more than half our budget on
2. I still don't think Giroud is good enough despite yesterday's heroics to lead our line for 50 games+ on his own......BUT if he gets crocked we are down to a bloke on loan from Chelsea and fuck all else. Given the previous links to Roonet, Suarez, Higuain etc this is decidedly a Grade B or C option in the position we need it most
3. The keeper in question is a walking crock who has spent 2 years trying to regain form and dropped into Serie B.
The signings give us more depth but I think we'll be looking back in May thinking, "fuck me if we'd pushed the boat out for Higuain / Suarez"...what might have been

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
We need a Suarez quick and nimble/skilful type striker, Ba is none of those. He is better than what we have, but we should be spending the money on a world class striker which is more important.Swifty wrote:I put him ahead of Bendtner, Park and Sanogo and, while taking your point, will accept it is a positive move.MrT wrote:Am I the only person who does not rate Demba Ba? Finnish press declaring done deal for Ozil and Arsenal. As they don't know shit about football, has the deal been confirmed yet anywhere else? Hopefully Arse can pull Starvin' Marvin Angel deal through too...
Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
Agree completely - I've been on about reigniting Torres or getting ElShawaary but I'm saying BA at least gets us some depth which at the moment is an improvement.MrT wrote:We need a Suarez quick and nimble/skilful type striker, Ba is none of those. Off out for a few hours, someone better be holding up the famous white and red jersey with a cannon on it by the time I get back or it's time to go all Ninja on the trio of knobheads dealing with transfers
