If Wenger really wanted to get a British core at Arsenal he'd have coughed up for Sturridge AS WELL as tying down Theo.
Sturridge and Theo in a 4-4-2 together could have been great. Then we'd have Podolski and Giroud for the other options. 4 good strikers, that's what you need to win titles. When Theo is sold we will just have Podolski, and even he is not a conventional striker.
Suarez and Sturridge are an interesting prospect, I wonder how they will accomodate him into their 4-3-3 or if they will scrap it and play a 4-4-2.
I don't give a fuck if they thought they were signing Dempsey. How arrogant must Brendan Rodgers have been to look at that squad and proclaim that Andy Carroll was of no use to them and ship him off on loan? Just because he's not a total footballer. Oh, I forgot, he always plays fantasy football and entertains people. Apart from when Liverpool don't turn up, which is 60+% of the time. *word censored*.
I'd rather have any carroll

Sturridge is a cocky c**t who has done nothing in the game to merit that arrogance and he has shown himself to be a money grabbing b*****d in the past when he joined the chavs leaving the club that educated him in the process

Zaha in (which will be portrayed as beating United to his signature but the reality is he will join because at United he'd be in the reserves or on loan for a year where as Lord Wenger will have him playing 40 games next season and then make him captain at 23, before he ultimately joins a big club)
SteveO,
You missed out the most important point................United would pay Zaha 20-25k a week until he established himself. Wenger will pay him 40-50k a week just to make sure he joins!

Sturridge = typical modern, overpriced, average British player.

officepest has summed it up really. Don't know what I can add to that apart from an overall conclusion that he is an overrated, arrogant little boy with a disgusting attitude and sense of entitlement. Frimpong x100.

Assuming it's true, is Ba an outstanding player who we should get excited about? or is he just another player bought because his price tag just so happens to match out ambition?
I've hardly ever seen Ba play, so I genuinely don't know if this is a great signing or not.

Huge assumption really, Wouldn't be surprised one bit to see him go QPR.
At the end of the day the chances are that he will score goals in some capacity. Although this capacity will undoubtedly be reduced when cast up front with only Gervinho and Ramsey either side for support.
But he ain't worth having a ***** over because:
a) He's going to the African Nations (I think) and at best he'll miss several weeks, at worst he'll be completely knackered afterwards.
b) He ain't world class by any means.
I would quite happily take him but he's not fit to shine van Persie's boots.

Typical Wenger signing really. Not particularly expensive, not particularly exciting, might do reasonably "OK" without ever setting the place alight or being the player that we really truly need, liable to fuck off to the ACN for a few months every year, will probably help us in some capacity to achieve the virtual trophy. Yadda yadda yadda, rinse & repeat, it could be any transfer window from 2007 onwards.
I have the same reaction to Ba signing as I did to Gervinho... "Meh"

Regarding part a, Ba isn't going to the ACON this season because Senegal didn't qualify so if he signs you've got a full half season with him.
IMO Ba is a very good player, much better than the hideously overhyped Cissé. Being one of those who enjoys watching Newcastle lose I watch pretty much all of their games that don't clash with Sunderland matches so have seen a fair bit of the lad. He's got a good touch, puts himself about and is a good finisher in addition to being handy in the air (although far from being a target man). The issue with him is obviously the injury risk, for £8m he would be a very sensible squad addition but most people think his knees are a bit of a ticking time bomb and it would be just typical if someone signed him and he broke down soon after!
Whilst I think he's a good player though, I'd only see him being a squad player for Arsenal. Firstly, if Walcott is to be given chances up front that would mean having to play 4-4-2 but Ba has always looked much more effective when played as a lone striker (hence him and Cissé hardly ever partnering each other for Newcastle, one tends to be stuck on the wing). Secondly, although his touch is good for a big lad and he can finish, he isn't great at linking play and I think your passing style means the striker needs not only to be able to pull the ball down but also to be able to hold it up and play good passes to the likes of Wilshere, Podolski and Cazorla.
I think he'd score more than Giroud, but not by enough to make him a class signing and it would mean no central berth for Walcott. If Arsenal were to get a new striker they should be setting their targets higher because a player who could do a job as a squad player isn't really what you need. Llorente is no doubt a bit over optimistic but I think Dzeko would be a good signing for Arsenal, very good player who simply hasn't been getting the run of games he needs at City, the problem (as always with them) would be wage demands but then they're probably used to having to contribute to at least some of the wages of their ex players! He'd be a much better fit for what you need than Ba but for £8m Ba would probably get you around 8-10 goals a season even if given a bit of a bit part role.

If Ba has a supposed 7.5m buy-out clause in his current contract why the fuck would we pay 8m
