ManUre don't possess anything like the defensive solidity the Chavs had that year, and they don't have a Drogba either.

Of course both of those things are true. Its just no one should write them off until they are actually beaten.

Moyes winning the Champions League may seem ludicrous, but is it any more ludicrous than it being won by a man who had previously been sacked by West Brom when in the relegation zone?
Spot on!! I remember similar comments being made about Chelsea a couple of years ago by the same 'experts' and we all know what happened next. :banghead: :banghead:

Funnily enough, although it would seem unlikely and definitely not something I want to see happen, I was thinking of this thread when Utd went 3 up and how ironic it would be if we ended up fourth and they won the CL and deprived us of our place!  :worried: :worried:

Chelsea were very lucky in 2012. This season they have a chance because they are defensively solid, much better than 2012.

Utd are rubbish though, any decent will take them to pieces. They don't have a defence that could keep out the likes of PSG, Barca or Real.

Have faith people, don't start getting jittery just because they kept a clean sheet at home against the greeks. C'mon Moyes in charge!

On a side note..

People claimed UEFAlona, tonight I saw UEFAester UTD ( ) .

Clear bias for the cash rich clubs. Will we one day have a ref playing for us as a 12th man? we can dream, when we do we'll now Arsenal have arrived in the big time!!

The only positive out of tonight is that Chelsea's inevitable quarter-final tie with Olympiacos will now have to be re-arranged.

As for the last eight sides - fuck the lot of them.

If I was a manure fan then I would be hoping for ath madrid (good but inexperienced), psg (ibra is 90% of their attacking play) or the fast declining dortmund - to us manure are an average past it outfit whose players have stopped playing for their manager but across europe they will still be viewed as a big club and will probably be feared by some

If I was a betting man I would bet on them getting the chavs or ath madrid in the draw

Essexgooner I think the difference is that (other than under AVB) Chelsea have always had the ability to retreat into their shell and grind out defensive performances. They still did superbly to produce these for the last 3 matches and got the most luck I have ever seen any side get ever.

United have firepower up front and if they're in the game at all are always capable of scoring. Which is why I'd give them an unlikely but reasonable chance to beat PSG, Dortmund or Atletico (for reasons posted previously). But there is 0 chance of them putting in a sturdy rearguard action, their defence is useless, their non-attacking midfielders aren't much better and Moyes seems to have completely lost the tactical nous he sometimes displayed at Everton (although his track record show his inability to set up against better sides). Not only will United leak goals against one of the big 3, they will not win it back and when they do they don't have the players in midfield to keep it for any length.

Real Madrid's difficulties in the competition are testament to the fact you will not win the CL if you can't defend. The most underrated aspect of that great Barca side was how fast and aggressively they pressed the ball when they lost it, its a cliche but they defended right from the top.

David Moyes is a fucking god, long may he reign at Old Tragic, he is In my mind the right man to take them forward. I think he should promote Ryan Giggs as his right hand man as he knows all about loyalty. Let's hope they get to show their credentials against Real Madrid cos they know all about Ronaldo, he must be shit cos they sold him.

will be quite happy to see them get worn out with another couple of fixtures.
they won't beat any of the potential semi finalists this time around.

An interesting draw. I think that the key to beating Bayern is to go there still in the tie or slightly ahead, and hope that they crumble under the pressure of their fans for a big win. They turn up every week expecting their side to win big and so as the missed chances pile up I think the mood in the ground would grow increasingly tense- and you could use this to your advantage. Of course you would also need a huge slice of luck like Chelsea got.

Yes, because if there's one area of football we know all about, it's how to beat the top sides... :D

Can't wait to see these cants get absolutely pasted... exactly what we failed to do :barscarf:
