Arteta "knowing the club" is the absolute worst reason to give him the job. He only knows Wenger's version of the club and the latter non-title winning half at that. Face facts - we are not a serious club anymore, only United can succeed (to some extend) in spite of US ownership, but that is because they dwarf most other clubs with glory hunters and commercial stuff which makes up for the Glazers, Liverpool have a marginally better US owner (more so over Kroenke) who is more ambitious but they will struggle long term to compete, every other club, inc us, with US owners are pony.

FFP had to happen for us to have any chance of long term sustained competitveness with our 'model', we all know that went down the pan and so did any chance of us being a serious club.

Many of the most successful managers were distinctly ordinary players - including our greatest ever (he played for Spurs - say no more!) and some French bloke whose name I forget. Alex Ferguson was no great shakes in his playing days. So it's an irrelevant argument.

For the record, I think Arteta was a very tidy midfielder, though Everton saw his best days. He wouldn't have got into the invincibles.

I hope we get one of the big hitters: Enrique, Allegri, Simeone, Ancelloti. At a push Loew of Germany. We haven't waited this long to get our own version of David Moyes.

That's an excellent point. Not only did the crazy decision to award another 2-year contract set us back a further year on the pitch, but it also cost us a year's salary that we could have used to attract the likes of Enrique or Allegri.

In addition to that original crazy decision, they are about to compound that initial stupidity with a complete novice. Zizou, Nagelsmann, Tedesco, Jardim, Pep, etc. They all had some management experience before being appointed to their roles.

This club is turning into more and more of a joke club with those idiots that sit on the board. Let's bring in some real football men and ignore them because of the LA Rams success.

I know that it hasn't happened yet, but you just know that it is going to be Arteta. I really thought that Gazidis would be chomping at the bit to make an appointment of real meritocracy, but instead he really is just a puppet for the Kroenkes who know nothing of football. FFS!
