SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

ÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖZIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLL!!!

I really wanted us to get a CB and a CF(partner or backup, I wasn't fussed)

Although we didn't get either, Ozil means that the forwards we do have will get better service and we'll probably keep possession.
I'm sure he can play on both wings, so I'm less worried about the inevitable injuries to our forwards.

We should have just bought Williams and put the CB backup issue to bed. Verm is back in 2 weeks, but hopefully we get somebody in January.

I'm actually happy with Flamini. I don't really like us playing CAMs as DMs.

We've got Super Nicky B back for the Carling Cup.

We could go for Suarez or Falcao in January both will be eligible for the CL and maybe available for sale.

This window has typified Arsenal over recent years.

Frustrating, looking doomed then a fantastic finish which masks the reality that we didn't really compete as we should have. Not many would have been satisfied with a 30m nett spend if told in July.

For Kos scoring against the Toon a la Muller see Ozil signing on dotted line on 2nd September. A great finish which releases a flood of relief that too many of us get carried away with. It's easier to see this as a watershed moment in terms of recruiting world class again rather than acknowledge once again AW failed to address our weaknesses. Our midfield alone cannot win the league.

Tired of waiting for those two missing pieces of the jigsaw. It's being not too far away that creates the hope. It's the hope that kills you.

First things first Ozil is a great signing and I'm hopeful he has a long and successful career with us and that we can actually be competitive enough to keep him by playing for trophys and not selling him to Man City.

With that being said we cannot leave this great signing bury or heads in the sand. We were promised a warchest amounting to somewhere around 70 million, we only spent just over half of it. I would not mind that if we had enough strength in dept but the fact of the matter is that there is still clear holes in that squad. Another centre half, a winger and a striker to provide decent cover for Giroud. The best this squad can get is 4th. Mark my words.

Hopefully Wenger will realise this before January. I am still not on the "Wenger out" brigade we need to be better this year and actually win something cause that what we were promised and I can appreciate that Wenger loves the club and cares about its long term future but its 2013, its time to roll with the times and not ruin his own legacy because thats what could happen.

Welcome Mesut Ozil by the way

Gazidis said that we have £70m to spend:

Plus we made £10m this transfer window (Gervinho, Mannone) so after signing Ozil, we've got £40m left.

Hopefully a top striker is coming in January 8)

As far I see it we're only missing a starting striker and our squad would be complete. A CB is debatable because we have 3 top CB's and we just need more cover and that's it. That cover could easily come in the shape of the young CB's in the reserves, not to mention the likes of Sagna filling in.

The good thing is that we won't have to struggle to bring strikers in. Even the top strikers will be queuing up to join us and play in front of the likes of Özil, Santi and Jack. :D

I know that Wenger had 70m on summer transfer + Gervinho and rest players whose we sold. we earned maybe more than 10m but i dont think so Gazidis will give Wenger 40 m in January...

Arsenal spend 42,5 m - its very rarely thing and will not happen again soon.

I wish I am wrong... :banghead:

40m - Central back who will costs aroudn 15m, and experienced striker for max bid 25m seems like a dream

As every transfer window passes I become more and more like a character in One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest.
I always want to rage against the machine which is our club heirachy, I can see all the flaws, flaws that have been apparent for years.
Pi$$ poor transfer negotiations, players dropping like flies, and takings weeks to get back.
Every time it gets so bad I don't feel I can take anymore I get the calming sedative that's last a couple of weeks, be it a scrappy win at Newcastle, or the promise of a massive transfer fund.
It gradually wears off as we drop points again at places like Carrow Road and St. Mary's, but not to worry another window is on the horizon, players are getting fit again.
Ahhhh!, another injection, thank you nurse.

We got ourselves a massive player o özil, no doubt that him linking up with Cazorla will be a treat to see.

Said that, they'll both want to choke Giroud to death in two months time, when he fluffs 3 chances a match. He's the type of player a top club has as cover, not as ONLY option.

And we still need a proper midfield enforcer, we've been needing one since Gilberto left ffs!

All and all an ok window, specially because we did something we don't do - spending money on actual top players. And that expenditure comes with accountability for wanker, he can't expect to but this kind of players and still keep his mob of deluded lovers happy with a 4th place trophy. ( or can he?)

the real downside of it all is that we just know he's getting a two year extension to be announced by the AGM, specially after all this ' i wanted to play for wenger" shit that came about.

It feels so good to have the Flaminal back in the fold. I'll know he's truly back when he acquires his first red card of the season. Nobody fucks with Flamini! :box:

:barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

That said, I'm still having Özil for my shirt (I don't buy until AFTER the transfer window closes, after Cesc left us :cussing: )
