World Cup 2014 Squads and Games

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

At this rate it will be team USA and their soccer team that wins the blingy cup .
A step up from The Socceroos and their 'World Game' team I suppose.

Meanwhile, Coleen Rooney had her luggage ransacked. Now, that's headline news.

put it this way, you wouldn't want to be in a position where you are relying on Ozil would you.

We (arsenal) often are.

Ozil is still not confident enough. Doesn't have the authority.

But the fans who would champion that "team usa" are not the hard core "soccer" fans in much the same way as all those w*nkers who do the ole chant at the grove everytime we complete another meaningless pass, are not proper seasoned Gooners  I'm a huge nfl fan but I would love to see "soccer" get a real foothold in the American sports market - there are many genuine long-term fans of the game out there, who have put up with the ridiculing/mocking/dismissive comments from fans of other sports is the us, so for them I would like to see usa do well 8)

Augie you remind me of that guy in Alan Partridge who is desperate to be American

What I've really enjoyed about the WC is the willingness of the small teams to have a go. None of this going to the Etihad and rolling over to have their tummies tickled, actually having a go which has made for some great viewing. Algeria were superb first 30 minutes, very organised and looked really good on the ball. Unfortunately just lacked the clinical edge and have carved out remarkably few chances relative to how the game has panned out.

Ah the good old days when I was continually referred to as victor meldrew, seemed to have returned

Anyway, just cos I stand up for our American buddies doesn't make me wrong - I grew up in a country where footie was not an established sport and was downright opposed in many towns and villages (we formed our local club in 1989 and 5 of the 6 local pubs refused to back the club for fear of a backlash from the gaa community   ). I applaud people, in Ireland and America and every other country, where they have had to fight the good fight just to get some hard earned respect and you brits have had it too easy and will never know what that was like

Özil scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the end, and BFG put in a masterclass defensive performance.

Apart from the umpteen times the Algerians got in behind and he and Boateng had to be bailed out by Neuer rushing out you mean?

Trevor Steven on RTE along with the panel were critical of BFG but I thought his obvious lack of pace apart he played well. Won a lot in the air and made a few interceptions. Ozil is Ozil, class but not authoritative,

As a big BFG fan, I have to say that leyton Gooner is bang on there - the german back 4 were horrendous although boateng def hung mertesacker out to dry on a few occasions
