SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign
Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not
Wenger will sign a 2 year extension which will be announced at the next AGM .
I'm not on a wind up Ive just accepted that this will happen those who wanted him out now have done nothing apart from whine on here and and play peekaboo with the odd banner .
What frustrates me so much is that we have blown a massive opportunity yet again by not singing players before
the season starts and having them prepared for an assault on the title which I think we are still 3 players short in order to achieve it .
I still despise the people who run the club ,i still think the manager is way past his prime but in some ways
I'm glad its settled now, I just want to get behind the team and go for that all important 4th place and dream we
can win something more tangible !

Said that, they'll both want to choke Giroud to death in two months time, when he fluffs 3 chances a match. He's the type of player a top club has as cover, not as ONLY option.
And we still need a proper midfield enforcer, we've been needing one since Gilberto left ffs!
All and all an ok window, specially because we did something we don't do - spending money on actual top players. And that expenditure comes with accountability for wanker, he can't expect to but this kind of players and still keep his mob of deluded lovers happy with a 4th place trophy. ( or can he?)
the real downside of it all is that we just know he's getting a two year extension to be announced by the AGM, specially after all this ' i wanted to play for wenger" shit that came about.
Who are the players to which you refer ? We signed 1 top quality player, signed a french second division injury prone would be postman, 1 back up keeper from italian 2nd division and 1 money grabbing whore who has spend the past 5 seasons sitting on milan's bench (when not injured

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho pulled the plug on Demba Ba's proposed switch to Arsenal because he fears the £42.5million capture of Mesut Ozil has made them genuine title contenders.
Arsene Wenger was left fuming on transfer deadline night after Chelsea made a late U-turn on Ba’s proposed move across London.
The Arsenal manager thought a deal to sign the Senegal striker on a season-long loan deal was in place on Monday night after hours of negotiations between the clubs.
But Mourinho admitted the Blues blocked the Ba deal as they did not want to strengthen a direct rival, and the eleventh hour decision meant Wenger had no time to pursue any other options.
He said: 'Ozil is unique. There is no copy of him – not even a bad one. He is the best number 10 in the world. He makes things very easy for me and for his team-mates with his football vision and the decisions he makes.
'Everyone loves him and sees a bit of Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane in him.
'We didn’t accept Arsenal’s offer for Demba Ba because the signing of Ozil makes them title contenders.'
It is understood Ba’s move across London was so far advanced that Arsenal had arranged the former Newcastle forward’s medical.
Wenger was desperate to sign a centre-forward on Monday, knowing Olivier Giroud is currently his only fit recognised striker.

England and Arsenal winger Theo Walcott, 23, has likened Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney's head to "something out of a horror film".

Good backup goalkeeper
Centre Back/Right back
Tackling dynamic midfielder
Striker
We got two of those.
And a very good player in a position where we were well stocked.
Very happy to see Ozil at the club, am OK with Flamini, a WYSIWYG player.
But an injury to Giroud sees us pick from -
Podolski - injured, not proven as Premiership striker.
Walcott - best at right wing, not proven up front.
Bendtner - not as bad as is perceived, a 12 - 15 goal per season man, but how motivated will he be?
Sanogo - far from ready, if ever.
Akpom - brighter than Sanogo, but just 17.
Afobe - injured, unproven.
Park - last seen working as a waiter in the Busan restaurant.
As for centre back, we are fine only as long as we get no more injuries.
But if Sagna is needed there, it means we have the average Jenkinson right back.
I would have liked to have seen David Villa and the new Liverpool player Mamadou Sakho signed too.
As it stands we are fighting for third place.
As a fan who pays a lot of money for tickets, that is not acceptable.
Agree with most of that Quartz, but I think if Pods is given the chance - more than 3 or 4 games to play as the main striker he will come up with the goods (Goals).

That cant be true - hasnt our beloved leader spouted continually about the benefits of buying at the last minute of the transfer window ?

And old moaninho thinks that we are now title challengers ? Do me a favour

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not
The story about Ba not being allowed to come to us by Mourinho is not a fact, it is speculation.
Radio5Live suggested that the deal was scuppered when Chelsea put the loan price up to around the £4M mark for one season, which Arsenal would not pay.
Regardless of which version is true, so what?
No blame to Mourinho, why should he make it easy for us?
The fault lies with our club who should have got David Villa on a two year deal whilst Sanogo, Afobe, Akpom etc develop and can learn from him, or just bite the bullet and get Higuain or Lewandowski as well as Ozil.

This window has been an incompetent disaster. We go into this season with just 3 centre backs: Verm/Kosch and Merty. Upfront our only striker we have is Giroud, until Pod comes back. It's unforgivable really.

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not
We began the transfer period by trying to buy a striker, thereby acknowledging that we needed a striker. We than tried to buy 2 big money strikers, thereby acknowledging that this position required a top quality/price player. We finished the transfer period failing to bring in Ba, a decent short-term asset but hardly the world class player we were previously pursuing. The failure to complete this deal meant that we didn't have sufficient time to line up anyone else and so Bendtner was retained. To think, i wasted a whole evening watching Sky Sport Snooze continually interviewing representatives of various lesser clubs constantly spouting 'we hope to do this deal but if not we have a contingency plan just in case' type comments only to find that we didn't have a contingency plan for Ba. If that's not ridiculous enough, Bendtner is actually quite a similar style player to Giroud which means he doesn't even offer any alternative.spendsum4uckingmoney wrote:This window has been an incompetent disaster. Ever since the 'infamous' 2011 trolley dash occured, i've found myself wondering about the often repeated belief that all clubs have hugh weighty volumes of scouting reports on every player in every league. If so, was Santos really the very best left back available in Europe if not the world? (Wayne Bridge would've been a half-decent experienced Premiership left back who could've been drafted in on a short term deal). Arteta and Beni were both players who'd suffered long-term injury problems brought in without taking medicals (Arteta on a 4year deal no less). It's one thing getting pissed off with AW for dithering but i seriously question whether he and his scouting staff even have an adequate system for sifting through potential recruits..this despite AW's own recent quote that we are scouting all over the world.
I note that 1 newspaper yesterday listed which clubs had had a "hit' or 'miss' transfer window. The criteria for 'hit' simply seemed to revolve around who had actually spent big money and therefore on the basis of bringing in 1 big star
we qualified as a 'hit' (no there's no trophy to go with it Arsene). No doubt Ozil will be an outstanding signing but they'll come a point when he's sliding an inch-perfect through ball to (not Ronaldo, Iguain or Benzema but) Sanogo, Akpom or Bendtner and thinking to himself 'what have i done?'.
For AW this 1 signing could be a career-defining move. The player wanted to come and play for him and who will be taken seriously for publicly demanding that the club hold back on giving him a new contract now? But for me, we're still unable to mount a serious threat to winning the league or Champs Lge as we've handicapped ourselves by not fleshing out a skeletal squad. The 'Klinnsman effect' led to a lot of exciting games at Sp**s but ultimately it didn't help their team much and i fear the same here now although at least i'll enjoy watching the team play this season unlike last.

Speaking to a R.Madrid (life long) supporter this morning - He is over here doing his PhD !...anyway he said Ozil is Pure class..But, can sometimes go missing - he has a tendency to either be 100% Brilliant and destroy the opposition or non-existent
.....he also said that the R.M fans were split 50/50 over monkey boys arrival...and he's not too sure he will do well there.
So let's all wait & see shall we!?

I couldn't agree more Bruce. There is something seriously wrong with our scouting team. How often do we hear that Wenger is looking for 'super quality' or asking 'buy who?' to the press. I wonder if AW doesn't trust his scouts anymore.
Speaking of our scouts I just had a glimps off them:
Keown and Grimandi came 05 +06 and we have Rowley who came at 96.
The signings since Keown and Grimandi have hardly been impressive.

I don't watch much La Liga but when I have seen RM in the CL Özil hasn't really done a lot. He's obviously a very talented player but from what I've seen of him, which isn't much admittedly, I can see what your RM mate means. Obviously he was a medium sized fish in a gigantic pond at Real but a large percentage of our attacking play should come through him so there should be less chance of him going missing. We shall see.OneBardGooner wrote:Speaking to a R.Madrid (life long) supporter this morning - He is over here doing his PhD !...anyway he said Ozil is Pure class..But, can sometimes go missing - he has a tendency to either be 100% Brilliant and destroy the opposition or non-existent![]()

If this is just one isolated big signing to appease the fans in the short term then it will seem pointless as the status quo will continue. But IF it leads to more big names joining next summer and a change in the philosophy of the club it's a great bit of business if he reaches his full potential
Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not
Your 3 Girraffe midfielders really worked well eh?
And old man with a limp Rosicky can run pass them too!

Wenger will get a new 3 year deal. If Ozil flops AW will say 'see? Money doesn't guarentee you.. blah blah blah'. Either way AW wins.

I may be wrong, but I thought Keown was just employed by us as corporate ambassador, doing goodwill charity visits and community training schemes etc, had no idea he was a scout?spendsum4uckingmoney wrote:
