Basil is a Gooner wrote:I am not a "wenger out" person although a major change of everything is required, but I found this quote (on arsenal.com) quite bizarre....

This is just it Basil. I am still giving AW until the end of the season and then this coming closed season to change it before I emphatically call for his removal.

But with each passing week he digs himself in further.

He gives little or no outward recognition that anything bar 'bad luck' 'mental sharpness' 'a bit of experience' is ever missing.

The January window will be the first clear insight. If he really does nothing then :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: and we'll have to limp through until May. But if he still won't act then they'll be a cacophony of noise clamouring for his departure.

In all his interviews and pronouncements he appears blind to reality and stuck in his own comfort zone where this utterly inadequate bunch of players are in fact a world beating squad, if only the rest of the planet could see it. :x :x :x

To play devil’s advocate a bit, do all those that agree that the failure to replace Dein has had a massive detrimental impact not feel that to a degree that mitigates Wenger’s transfer dealings (or lack thereof) last summer?

I mean if you’re working with a relatively tight budget (which unless you really believe the board, Wenger is), and the man who is supposed to negotiate transfers (and was an expert at it) is no longer there and hasn’t been replaced then surely Wenger’s been working with one hand tied behind his back in the transfer market.

I’m not a defend-Wenger-at-all-costs-typa-guy & there’s plenty I’m f*cked off about right now re: his management but I’m not so sure it’s all as black & white as we didn’t buy because he decided we didnt need to.

There is no question that Dein's departure was - in retrospect - a massive blow for the Club. Far worse than Henry going or DB10 retiring.

He was the link between the Board and Wenger and the Team. He took a lot of weight from Wenger's shoulders and the current Board simply have not the nouse to relpicate or replace him.

Wenger Out?? NO CHANCE!

I'm angry, frustrated and generally pretty disheartened, as I can't help think most of what has happened could - and SHOULD - have been avoided!

Going into a season with no genuine holding midfielders was suicide.. and stripping Gallas of the captaincy has further rocked a pretty imbalanced ship... he shouldn't have been captain this season, and pretty much every fan knew it!
- why didn't Wenger??

Anyway, Wenger should not be sacked, and at this stage we need to get behind him and the players.

Lets hope he makes some signings in January, and next summer, Wenger MUST address the flaws that he's neglected to address, last summer.

Even if we finish 5th... WENGER MUST STAY!

Wenger is too blame for everything that has gone wrong this season. But he WILL NOT do anything to change it. He will put his faith in crap players like

Diaby: the new Vieira(Dont make me laugh!!!) when was the last time you saw a player his size so weak in the tackle.Cant pass to save his life

Denilson: This guy couldnt pass water.Weak in the tackle

Song:A headless chicken.Looks lost on the pitch

Nasri: Plays well at home but has not played one good game away from AG

Bendtner: A pile of shite.Poor first touch.Poor in the air.No pace

Eboue: Crap

How many more crap performance are we the fans going to have to suffer.dont forget Wenger sold Diarra,Flamini and Gilberto and did not replace one of them

Wenger should quit at the end of the season even if we do scrape into 4th place :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

What a shambles yesterday was. I had a look on the NewsNow website, and the thing is littered with headlines such as “It's time for Arsenal and Wenger to part companyâ€

very good post, TS 8)

I'm of a similar opinion, in that signing a holding midfielder would make a huge difference, and has to be a priority in January.

It would free up Cesc to do what he's best at, and would give our brittle defence the much needed cover it's crying out for!

Our defence is clearly too exposed, and it's a nonsense to expect 2 young ATTACKING midfielders, to adequately shield our back four.

As you rightly point out, the balance is all wrong.

This was obvious before the season began, which is why I suppose many of us are so frustrated.
- if we can see it, why can't Wenger?

The Gallas situation is a similar one. It was clear he was unstable and a poor capatin, and yet Wenger stuck with him.. and here we are, in mid-November, in utter chaos.

It could - and probably should - have all been avoided.

However, it is NOT time for Wenger to leave... far from it. Even if we finish 5th, he deserves another season... his record has afforded him that, and the undoubted quality within the squad, should at least offer a little optimism for the future.

In Arsene We Trust!

the question to be answered is do we have the financial resources to compete in the transfer market

if the answer is yes and Wenger is refusing to spend the money on players we clearly need and to perserve with this lot - then yes he should go

but if we don't have the sufficent funds - getting rid of Wenger would be stupid, we would not be able to attract a top european coach and would land up with a poor replacement

We need to know how much money is available we keep hearing Wenger has £30m+ so why buy Silvestre for £750k :?

You know, we're only 2 points behind united?

I've never been a complete Wenger optimist, I think tactically he's not the best, with very few of his substitutions making any sense or having any impact (and costing us a number of times). His classic 'bring on a defender to tighten it up' have cost us so many times (Bolton away 2003, CL Final!) He's never had the balls to take players off when they're playing badly, and in general when comparing him to ferguson or mourinhio he pales tbh.

He is a fantastic youth developer, however I feel these young player r being hampered by not having players who can try to take the pressure off, lead these kids. Remember when Fab came in? he had gilberto, Viera alongside him, which takes the pressure off and allowed him to develop. Now Fabregas 21, is expected to do the same to 18 and 17 year olds. This is Wengers main problem. Youth needs the counter of experience. How good would someone like Denilson develop if Alonso was alongside him? Wenger should use Fergusons model (and i still think ferguson develops young players better tbh)

However, the man is still a fantastic manager. If he left Arsenal, every club in the world would want him. Yes we're going through a bad period, but i can't be the only one who remembers worse periods than this. I think a reality check is needed tbh. It reminds me of a few years ago when ppl wanted Ferguson sacked at United. Remember they also finished outside the top 2 a few times. For me Wenger has to go for the cups this year. I mean we could still have a great season here. He just needs to buy a dominating centre back and a DM player. Tbh thts the two big holes. Players like Diaby wil benefit from learning off someone like De Rossi.

Fiszman deliberately stood in front of Sky TV cameras and clearly said if Wenger wanted to buy a player for 30m he could........note that he didn't say he could buy a player for 30m total including wages, he said a £30m player. It's obvious he did that to exclude the board from taking any blame for this season, he also made a point of saying it was Wenger's choice not to spend anything.
It doesn't matter where we finish this season as far as Wenger goes because the matter of him staying or going should rest solely on whether he
a) can see the problems we have
b) addresses those problems.

I said at the start of this season that Wengers job was on the line because after highlighting our weaknesses of last season he did NOTHING to address those issues.
I manage a team of people at work and If I was responsible for bringing those people in and training them, and they turned out to be poor performers, would my management be likely to keep all of us in a job? If I could see weaknesses in my team but blindly told my bosses that they were good enough to get the job done......and then we failed, would I not expect to be in serious trouble??

Arsenal cannot afford to keep Wenger if he fails to address the issues in January. Period.

a) chep as chips, and

b) speaks french

For me the problem is this: Do we really want AW who lives in his own Wonderland and stubbornly refuses to listen to well meaning criticism? I am all for giving him one more season, but if it's going to be anything like this, I'm afraid it will all end in disaray and AW will part company with AFC, leaving bitter taste in everyone's mouth...

At the momment the only reasonable option seems to be for AW to 'move upstairs', with either Tony Adams or Slaven Bilic as a manager...

AW has to choose, what's more important? His (vane & almost certainly failed) vision or AFC, 122 yr old football club...?...

Tee Cee, Fiszman didn’t say that the £30m had to cover wages as well as transfer fees but in the past Wenger’s transfer budgets have always had to do just that. This was pretty much confirmed after the Edelman incident which was only a matter of months ago so unless there’s been a change in policy I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume that the £30m would still have to cover more than just the transfer fee.

I don’t pretend to know for definite one way or the other but given the level of spin we’ve seen from Arsenal before (be it Edelman’s mythical £70m, the crap we get on Arsenal.com, the “answersâ€
