It is a fundamental aspect of Judaism that permeates every aspect of the religion and is simply the wish of the Jewish people to return to their homeland. Again I make the point that it is very strange that so many people support the right of self-determination for all people then want to deny that right to the Jewish people.

I do not say that everyone who criticises Israel's government is antisemitic, but it is clear that many antisemites use "anti-zionism" to legitimise their hatred of Jews. Martin Luther King also made this point, albeit far more eloquently than me.

Goonarmy is totally out of order. I fully support the right of Israel to exist but according to UN resolutions not a 3000 yo religious text.

BTW I would have laughed if it had not been so sad to hear an Israeli spokesperson earlier this week say that Israel always implements UN resolutions. They lie so often they are starting to believe it.

Israel needs security, absolutely, but my argument is that what it has been doing for the last 20 years is making Israel less safe. If I was a 15yo Palestinian watching my brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts being murdered by the Israelis would I be thinking., "oh these Israelis have a point you know and we should give up resistance" or are they more likely to be thinking, "as soon as I can I am going to get revenge on these bastards".

20 years ago the default position for most westerners would be to support Israel. Now it is to support Palestinians. All down to the way Israel behaves.

Most of the Arab world is desperate for a settlement to stop excuses for radical elements in their own communities. A little more diplomacy and talking would lead to progress very fast. Unfortunately it seems quite clear that Israel does not want a settlement based on UN resolutions because it would have to give up so much territory.

I don't know what your dictionary defines self-determination as, mine says 'the right of the people of a certain nation to decide how they want to be governed without the influence of any other country'. How about some self-determination for Palestine then?

As for an ethnic group returning to it's homeland, how about evicting Jewish people from places like Stamford Hill, where they've lived for well over a century and handing over to Anglo-Saxons from Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, South Africa, Zimbabwe despite the fact they've had no link with the place for well over a century. After all shouldn't Anglo-Saxons have self-determination and return to their 'homeland' if they so wish?

Any Jew who has supposedly talked about putting Palestinian children on a punishment diet, if such a thing has happened, is not acting in accordance with Judaism and is totally out of order.

Gaza is not a punishment camp. It is an evolution of a difficult security situation that the world powers have been trying to solve for many decades and have always failed. If you think Palestinians have it rough now, take a look and see how it was for the awful under Egyptian rule!

Gaza is no longer lived in by any Jews.

The West Bank used to be Jordan. It was captured in 1967 by Israel after Jordan invaded Israel. The Jordanians do not want it back, because their regime does not want to have to administer over the Palestinians who live there (the Jordanian regime are Arabian Hashemite Arabs, not Palestinians, despite Jordan being set up as Palestinian homeland and having a 52% Palestinian population).

So what to do in the West Bank?

Israel already offered most if it to be used as a Palestinian state, and it was refused.

It would have been a viable and productive state!

There is some of it used by Israelis to live, about 250,000 Israelis. But who's land are they "settling" on?

Palestinians?

Well seeing as the land there that is lived on by Israelis was just scrubland before being built up, it is not on Palestinian land.

The Palestinians living in the West Bank are in a much better situation than their counterparts in Arab countries, living in camps in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and parts of Jordan!

If this thread proves anything it is that as Jews we just have to take care of our own business, because it is only the Jewish posters who have put a pro Israeli point of view.

Israel has taken them in, Egypt has shot women and children on it's border.

Israel had to do what it had to do.
It was under attack.

A non Zionist Jew is still halachically a Jew (that means under Jewish law) but is on the very fringe's of Jewish society and represents a small minority of Jews.

No one was thrown out of anywhere. Israel was built on swamp land, or land purchased from the Arabs that lived there.

And do not dispute fact.

Israel is the single biggest contributor of aid to the Palestinians from out of all Middle East countries.

What have those oil rich Abu Dabi people done for the Palestinians?
