SUMMER TRANSFER WINDOW 2009 - Who are we linked with?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

GoonerJim...that would be amazing for us.

But I find it amazing to believe that would happen, though we did of course trade Cole for Gallas.

We cannot offer Chelsea much in the way of money only, so who would we swap for Essien?

Adebayor plus cash?

Raul Albiol
RAFA BENITEZ and Arsene Wenger are battling it out to sign Spanish defender Raul Albiol.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form for Valencia this season and his impressive displays have caught the eye of the Premier League duo.

Albiol is tied to the Spaniards until 2011 and has a buyout clause of £60million in his contract.

But Valencia are in financial turmoil and could accept an offer as low as £15m for him this summer.

Benitez’s connections at his former club have seen Liverpool steal a march on Arsenal and Valencia’s sporting director, Fernando Gomez, has now hinted the club could offload Albiol in June.

He said: "It is necessary to study each offer that we receive and after that we will decide.

"The money situation is complicated at the club but nobody has spoken with us about Albiol on a formal basis.

"But we are aware that the Reds have been scouting around here in recent months."

I don't think it is ever likely to happen anyway - the link is a throw away comment by him that he would like to play for AW and knows some of the team.

So I would not worry!

Veloso triggers interest after revealing: I'm off
Arsenal and Bolton have been put on red alert after Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso revealed he will leave the club at the end of the season. Veloso, 22, is regarded as one of the best young talents in Europe and has been strongly linked with a move into the Premier League.Arsene Wenger is desperate to strengthen his midfield and has been a big admirer of the Portuguese international.

Bolton boss Gary Megson has also been tracking the progress of Veloso and came close to making a club record £12m move for him during the January transfer window.

Veloso is keen to show he can compete at the highest level and is set to attract a bidding war for his signature during the summer.

And Veloso's father, Antonio, has now revealed that the player will negotiate a package with Sporting to let him leave the club.

Antonio Veloso said: "I guarantee that he will continue until at least the end of the season and then we will see what is going to happen.

"We will speak with the club to resolve everything about his future so that he doesn't leave the club on bad terms."

Sporting are believed to have increased their valuation to around £18m, although Arsenal and Bolton will hope to land Veloso for around £14m.
