Magic, I agree with you, we need to give Wenger the full season. Sacking him now would make us as bad a the scum from the lane

I did say that we wait until the summer to sack him and I was advocating that but I also stressed that he has to go then no matter what - what I feel right now is that I would sack him even if, miracle of miracles, we finished 4th cos if that happened it would be down to villa blowing up more than anything positive we (the team and manager) did :(

If wenger goes cesc, gael, rvp and others will follow. It would be terrible. Who the hell would we get in aswell, cant think of many managers who could do a better job with the money wenger is given than the great one himself?
Keven keegan, paul ince, alan curbishley or maybe will go for a foreign manager who doesnt know the premier league and get on his back when he is expected to build a top four team with the funds a mid table team uses and fails. :banghead:

So I take it that you believe cesc will stay to play in the mickey mouse europa league (or whatever the fcuk it is called) if wenger stays ? Rvp hasnt signed a new contract yet cos he wants to see proof of the clubs ambition first so it looks like his decisions are based on factors other than loyalty to wenger eh ? People spout crap about if wenger goes such and such a player will go but in case some of you have slept over the last few seasons we have been losing players with wenger in charge anyway. Thing is losing the players hasnt been the problem but it is the fact that wenger hasnt replaced them that has seen this fiasco unfold. On top of that you can argue that wenger has a lack of funds but you honestly argue that wenger was right to keep picking eboue in front of theo, song in front of anybody and playing bedtner on the left wing ahead of vela ?? Those kind of decisions are not down to money

Finally jim, if you believe that there is a lack of money then why arent you leading the protests against this board ? I mean they have spouted bullshit about how the stadium wouldnt affect our transfer budget and now they are saying there is plenty of money at wengers disposal if he needs it so why are you not slating the board for continuous lies ? It seems to me that some fans use finances as an excuse to defend wenger but still dont want to attack the board over it

British managers who might be worth a gamble: Big Sam, Moyes, O'Neil (though doubt he would come). Skeptical about getting in Hodgson

Non English: Guus, Lippi, Capello, Jose come to my tired mind, I'm sure people have plenty of other capable of doing a good job on a budget.

Bollocks.

Wenger's contract is until summer 2010. Give him until then, making it very clear that if the team perform like this season his contract won't be renewed.

He deserves to be treated with respect, not just because of what he has achieved, but also because of the way he conducts himself.

He also deserves the opportunity to turn things around.

He was given that chance when we scraped into the CL 3 seasons ago on the back of a lasagne at the East India Dock Marriott. And what has he done since then - taken us further back

True, we have gone in the wrong direction.

But Wenger should be given one final season to turn it around. If he fails, then he can go and it will cost the club nothing.

I think I would stop supporting Arsenal if that fat *word censored* allardyce ever took over our club - there are very few people in the football world that I hate as much as that fat, anti-football and alledgedly crooked *word censored*

Hey I was desperate for another English manager, it was him, Redknapp or McClaren. Best out of the three

I think Big Sam is a good manager, took Bolton so far despite limited cash, Newcastle were stable under him, too soon at Blackburn but they have picked up form on his arrival. I don't like the man (I don't like Jose insult Reading ambulance service either) but I did think his Bolton side, while dirty and direct, were very good to watch in the final third, he always used flair players like Diouf, Anelka, Okacha, Djkorouf, that Iranian midfielder Temayroun (or something) and Gardner coming to mind. However he is untested against managers outside the English leagues and that is a problem.

I echo the comments on Allardyce, I hate him. I'd rather see Alex Song get £200,000 a week and a 10 year contract!!

Something that bugs me about the money situation is this -

Arsenal must have had a transfer budget for this season, it may not have been much but there must have been something when you consider Wengers net spend over the years and the state of the squad.
We let several big name players go saving what must be several million a year on wages, let's be conservative and say 3m.
We then get 5m each from clauses in the sales of Diarra and Bentley meaning we've got back something like £13m that probably wasn't budgeted for at the end of last season.
We then spend 15m on Arshavin with wages unknown, meaning we've actually spent the equivalent of a couple of million. Yes I'm being a bit simplistic but we haven't actually spent much that would have been in budget!
