I don't mind if he can do the DB's role for us....We have some fast players like Walcott, Ade, Arshavin, etc...augie wrote:g88ner wrote:That's how I see it, Jim.Gooner Jim wrote: Fair point, he isnt perfect, who is ?
considering we only paid like £2.5mil he is a classy player and is on a few players who I consider as arsenal standard
I don't see a need to compare him to DB or Henry... he's not the out-of-this-world player we all dream of, but as part of a SQUAD of forwards, he's ok! and at £2.5m, he's a feckin' steal!![]()
Ideally, I'd like 4 strikers. We have Van Persie, Eduardo, Ade or Bendtner, and then hopefullly another addition over the summer - and Arshavin who can play as a number 10 or on either wing.
So it's not a matter of being overrated or not... leave that to the tabloids ( ) - but as part of a compact squad... Van Persie is a decent player.
I still think we lack something in attack though, and that's real pace and power. Adebayor has that, but he doesn't use it... or at least he isn't clever enough - or motivated enough - to utilise it!
I agree with what you are saying g88ner except that I have a very real concern about rvp......I dont think that he would accept being a squad playerI have this feeling that rvp see's himself as the main man and not be pleased to find himself being rotated or being subbed on a regular basis
Whether you agree that rvp is over-rated or not I do feel that there is more than a little substance in the arguement that rvp is not partnership material and I agree 100% with that we are really really missing a striker with real blistering pace (a la anelka or henry) and maybe that is the sort of player that rvp could compliment
VAN PERSIE A HUGELY OVERRATED PLAYER
Can't argue with any of that, Augieaugie wrote:I agree with what you are saying g88ner except that I have a very real concern about rvp......I dont think that he would accept being a squad playerI have this feeling that rvp see's himself as the main man and not be pleased to find himself being rotated or being subbed on a regular basis

Of course you can, sheep. Baaahhh. Own opinion? Hhhhmmmm!!!!Belfast Boy wrote:Well I can only agree with what many have already said - if RvP had been where he is now ie 25 and pretty much injury free 5 or 6yrs ago with that team round him with the accompanying first class service and more room, he would've done some damage!

100% joking.
