how many did he buy and then resell cos they were shit, and £228m is an awful lot of money over 5 years for not coming close to a league win.
2008/09, 4 points behind United.

So stop whining.
I admit he didn't like to release the shackles and let the team play as free flowing as they potentially could, but that's because he is a great tactician, like Fabio Capello for example. He has improved our league positions since he came in, dramatically improved our performances in Europe and has been a man of humility (not many managers in the League can compare with this) and he has shown that he is basically one of us. At the end of the day though while i'll respect opposition fans views about him the people that know this club best are us and we have seen what the man has done for this club the last 5 years and the fact is we probably wont be in the Champions League for another while and most of us might not ever see some of the things we've seen under Rafa, atleast at Inter he will have proper owners and proper funding.
Well you've just made yourself look silly there. You do realize there is only one player there over £20 million? How can a team compete with a team that can afford to put £20 million and £30 million players on the bench?

I know many Gooners that would disagree with the notion that you have been competing with United in the last couple of years, look at that CL match for example.

There is no doubt they have been better than us over the last few years and we would like to be and should be closer to them, but we are still competing every year, this one included.
Over the last 20 years as a whole we have more than competed whilst being outspent dramatically in some cases by a number of teams, Liverpool being one of them..

This isn't just about competing with ManUre & Chelsea... you finished below Sp*rs, Citeh and Villa in the league, losing 11 games along the way & you failed to even get out of the group stage of the CL - for the time and money Rafa has invested in his squad, that's not good enough. In fact, it's woeful.
Hmmmm, Liverpool.... well I know we only narrowly beat them at home 1-0, but that was the worse Liverpool team I've ever seen, also saw them several times live on t.v. and they were equally dire.

Well I think if you look at the injuries and general bad luck we've had this season (sorry, a beach ball?) we just couldn't compete. If Gerrard and Torres were fit for at least 75% of the season then we would have finished in the top 4 without a doubt and possibly done better in the Europa League. No other team has had as bad luck as us with the amount of injuries we've had this season, this is why you need £20 million players on the bench, something we simply can't do.

What about us then? Van Persie out for most of the season, Gallas, Bendtner, Fabregas, Clichy, Gibbs, Vermaelen all out for a long time

True, you've had very bad luck with injuries also and have obviously paid the price for not having a good enough squad, something United don't have to worry about because they can go out and buy a £17 million or £30 million to sit on the bench and be able to fill in when the star men get injured. With our dependancy on Torres and Gerrard it really has just been bad luck with one of the them coming back from injury only to find the other out injured.
mcdowell42 wrote:Torres wasnt fit so what does benitez do goes out and spends money on a midfielder and a full back hes a twat and no loss to english football
Alonso wanted to go to Real Madrid (yes, that's right Rafa didn't want to sell him) and he had to replace him with another centre midfielder, he spent a lot on Johnson and the money probably could have been better spent on a back up striker. Even though N'Gog did very well this season.
