If Schwarzer does come too, Wenger will improve our chances greatly to do something better this season. I think it's probably the best you could hope for, in terms of transfers. Leaving City aside, I think Arsenal made the most out of this transfer window.

Seriously ?? We have let more players leave than we have brought in and in an already too small squad surely it leaves us further in the mire than ever ?

To break down your point in more specific detail can we look at the goalkeepers situation - here we have a position where wenger all but came out publicly during the summer and admit his dissatisfaction with his current options. He has had over 3 months now to sort it out yet we are going into the 2nd weekend of the season with the same options as we had last season  If he was waiting to see how the keepers scenario unfolded at man shitty and we ended up signing shay given or joe hart then I could have understood it but if, as is expected, we end up signing schwarzer then it is unbelievable that it would take so long to buy a player that we first made an offer for some months ago

Secondly, and every bit as crucially, where has this supposed transfer kitty gone ? :? Everybody (even the akb) has agreed that he has about 30m to spend this summer but yet we have only bought kos for 10m (dont include chamakh cos he was a bosman and I am sure his wages would be offset by the wages of those departures like gallas) so again I ask where has this money gone ? To say that he has made the most of this transfer window suggests that he has used the funds at his disposal to strengthen where needed and that clearly is not the case
As I said, I agree with you to a certain extent that Wenger tranfer policy is frustrating. I accept he should have dealt with our obvious problems sooner rather than later, but if those two, do come eventually, it will be after the second match of the season, without proper pre-season training with the team.

But, I'm upset with people slagging off these two players before they got a game for Arsenal, and even worst, before they actually signed for us.

John Terry is 30 in December (always a Chelski starter), Ferdinand is 31 in November (ok hes injured but you can bet your ass he'll be straight back in the utd squad when hes fit), Gallas just turned 33 (had a great few seasons with us).

Maybe he will be great, maybe he'll be slow and cost us some points, but no1 here will have seen all that much of Squillaci play. I'm assuming Wenger, or at least his scouts, have seen him play a lot so lets just hope that he'll be at least strong enough to fend off the likes of Drogba for 2 games a year...

We haven't even signed him yet!

:?
We havent??? I dont believe you... next you'll be telling me we havent signed Joe Cole, Lloris, Given, Ben Arfa, Joe Hart, Mertesacker, Ozil, Wright-Philips, Schwarzer, Spahic, Marchetti, Stekelenburg, Tasci, Eduardo, Diakhate, Taylor, Jagielka, Gourcuff, Buffon, Arteta, Yaya Toure, the Waterboy and Arsene Wenger!!

I also agree it can be frustrating. However it doesn't matter how much we offer people in terms of transfer money if they are demanding wages outside of our infamously concrete wage structure (without giving every member of the team a pay rise).

For instance Werder probably would (or did) accept a £13m offer from us for Ozil, but if he's demanding no less than 130k a week, then the deals dead.

rigsby wrote:As someone said, if we signed the entire legendary back 5 now a lot of people would be slagging it off. 2 from Stoke, one from QPR, a wimbledon player.

It really seems that its gone a little bit TOO over the top on the criticism of the players we are interested in signing.

I dont necessarily agree with that mate - yes people have expressed reservations and yes we did indeed sign the back 5 on the cheap but that was different times and now the standard is set higher. Back then there was no johnny foreigner ( ) populating the english game so the game was, and I dont mean to be harsh here, a little bit more primitive than it is now. Back that a physical/dirty defender or four was applauded and expected even but nowadays there is more of a balance between finesse and physicality and like it or not we do not have any physicality.....anywhere on the pitch much less defense  Personally (if the stories are true) I dont understand how players who are being discarded by clubs smaller than ours are classed as being good enough for us and I cannot understand how (again if reports are to be believed) we will sign schwarzer and fulham will sign a better keeper and yet we should be happy with this deal :?

According to sky Seville value him at 8 million euros but we have bid an insufficiant amount.........

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, ... 40,00.html

Sevilla have confirmed they are in talks with Arsenal over the possible sale of Sebastien Squillaci.

The France international centre-back was reportedly left out of the Spanish side's UEFA Champions League play-off clash with Braga in order to avoid being cup-tied.

Arsenal are in the market for a new centre-back after defenders William Gallas, Sol Campbell, Mikael Silvestre and Philippe Senderos were all allowed to leave the North London club at the end of last season.

Arsene Wenger has already added Laurent Koscielny to his defensive ranks and it looks like another Frenchman could be arriving at the Emirates Stadium.

The 30-year-old, who joined Sevilla from Lyon in 2008, is reportedly valued at £8million Euros, but Sevilla sporting director Ramon Rodriguez insists a deal has not been stuck yet.

"The player asked not to play because of the offer from such a big team but, for the moment, we believe the offer is insufficient and Squillaci is still a Sevilla player," said Rodriguez after the La Liga outfit's 1-0 defeat at Braga on Wednesday.

This is the problem with such high-profile glaring problems within a team. And as a result of selling a load of defenders before buying anyone in. Other teams know how desperate we are to buy on or two CB's and a GK, so they are bound to bump the price up. As always we will wait til the dying seconds and, if they give in to our low prices, buy someone, or if not, we will make do with the "fill-in players" we already have.

Jesus, I swear some people are never happy.

We're crying out for an experienced centre-back who knows how to win trophies and it looks like AW is actually about to finally sign one and yet still most people are moaning about it.

The bloke has just turned 30, he's not over the hill in the slightest.

Now Sevilla are my second team, and I've been over there quite a few times to watch them play. Squillaci is no mug, far from it. He will make a big difference to our side, and if you think he's going to be bullied now think again. He can certainly handle himself.

I'm sure he will be coming in as TV's partner as well, with Kos on the bench. I can't imagine he will leave Sevilla if he's not going to be starting for us.

Give the bloke a chance before you write him off, if we even sign him that is.
