Hopefully the keepers buckle down, get more confident. Command there defence, make impressive saves, and become loved
I completely agree... thats exactly what I was gonna say. Gomes really was a championship keeper at best for his first season but now (it pains me to say it) but he's really impressed me.
Wouldnt it be ironic if we could look back and say "Almunia really won that season for us".
I really wonder if some people on here think before they speak...how can you argue that we should turn against him because we've tried getting behind him and it hasn't worked?? It's not as if he's not trying he's just not good enough!!
I could have 100,000 people willing me on with all their might and my life might depend on me running the hundred metres in under 10 seconds but it'll never happen no matter how hard I try!!
If you boo him he'll play worse simple as that so you'll only be cutting your nose off to spite the face if you boo him to prove yourself right when he makes a mistake. If you're going to boo anyoen boo Wenger when he comes out, start booing when they sing only one Arsene Wenger, send in a question to the AGM, protest about his spending outside the stadium but don't boo Almunia!

BrazilianGooner has eloquently addressed wozza's point - being that you are comparing apples with oranges.
Gomes was an international keeper who had played in the Champions League with PSV, and won titles. Does that in any way sound like Almunia?
Gomes got used to the Premier League, and now looks like what he did for those of us who actually watched him at PSV, and try not to limit ourselves to England (where of course if you haven't done it, you haven't proved yourself )
In addition, Almunia's had 3 seasons now and is still doing the same things, so how long is long enough. I suggest that Wenger had had enough, but Wengernomics is something that supercedes even rational thought.

I know, just blind optimism is my defense mechanism Nothing we can do about it now though.

I know mate, and I'm all for getting behind the guy during games.
What bothers me is that it's not just get behind Almunia because, you know, it could worse (Fabianski) - but you have to have at least some faith in your number 2 with the assumption that Almunia could be seriously injured at some point.
Unless I am wrong I think there appears to be some confusion over the comments on this thread.....I dont believe people are going to go to the next match and automatically start booing below average al like some of you suggest. He will in all likelihood receive lukewarm support but hand on heart when he fcuks up both himself and wenger will get it with both barrels. Of course it goes without saying that the anger should be 95%directed at wenger but there are too many precious darlings amongst our support who would not dare offend the man that has become more important than the club and maybe even more important than life itself
So Almunia has been our No1 for 3 years now and the thing that bothers me is that he has not improved over those 3 years. He is still playing like it's his 1st season and making those silly mistakes that new goalkeepers do. His positioning for crosses, corners and freekick's is questionable the same can be said for Fabianski. So is this a coincidence or can it be down to something else(or somebody).
I think it is down to the coaching our goalkeepers get, since Bob Wilson gave up I think our goalkeeping position has gone down hill, as I said above positioning is a big problem for our 2 main goalkeepers also comanding the penalty area seems to be a problem for both keepers.
I think we need a new top quality goalkeeping coach as Gerry Payton does not seem to be doing the job unless Almunia and Fabianski do not listen to anything he tells them he has not improved these two goalkeepers one bit in the time he had to coach them.
This is not saying Almunia is a great keeper but it's the fact that the problems he has now are the same problems he had 3 or 4 years ago and the same problems Fabianski is seeming to have

Well said Hugh, Boo him for 90 mins and then when he fucks say "I told you so".
Look, as I've said before I don't think that Almunia is good enough for this club but the fact remains that he is the current No. 1 (God help us all) and for that reason alone I will back him during games. I'm not saying that I'll defend him against criticism but he has my support while he plays.

Again - he is ten times better than anything else this club has in that position and for that reason I will always be behind him until the day comes that we sign someone better. Time will tell if Chesney is a better bet but one season in League One proves nothing (as I seem to recall Fabianski was going to be the greatest thing since Seaman)
If he gets injured, or dropped by the GIC, in favour of Dumb or Dumber then we have a real problem. How either Fabianski or Mannone still earn their wages at this football club is beyond me, but if people want to leap on Manuel's first mistake then prepare for more days like last season's debacles at Wigan or Blackburn, the comic capers at Legia, or the cup-losing efforts seen at WHL, Wembley, the Brittania, Turf Moor etc over the past couple of years
