Andy Carroll

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Torres at £50m / Carroll at £40m. Puts into perspective when Arsenal first 11 cost a total of £44m.

7th highest transfer fee in history.

Ronaldo, Kaka, Torres, Ibra, Figo & Zidane the only players ahead of him.

How desperate are Liverpool? and how ridiculous has the state of modern football got?

What price Messi now?

yeah Twitchy said earlier that Newcastle made him put in a Transfer Request to make it look like he wanted to go.

Guess it's so that no looney toons go and kill Mike Ashley in his sleep.

That has to be bullshit like. After all, if you hand in a transfer request you lose your "loyalty" payment which I believe is normally 10% of the transfer fee. Does anyone seriously think Carroll threw away £3.5m just to make the mags think better of Mike Ashley? End of the day, the lad had a long contract at Newcastle- if he really didn't want to leave, all he had to do was say "Sorry Mr Ashley, I am under contract here and am happy to stay. I won't put in a transfer request because I don't want to leave, and if you accept a bid for me I will refuse to agree terms with the bidder, because I don't want to leave this club that I am contracted to". But that didn't happen.
