Arsène Wenger believes that Arsenal have the "desire and strength" to deal with the loss of Cesc Fabregas.

The Spaniard ended an eight-year spell in North London by agreeing to join Barcelona on Sunday night. Ahead of the Champions League tie with Udinese, the Arsenal manager spelt out that, in the end, the deal was driven by the player's wish to return to his hometown club.

"We lost a world-class player and we are sad about that," said Wenger. "We fought to keep him but in the end we have to respect the desire of the player as well. This Club is 125 years-old this season and many big players left and yet the Club went on. We want to show that we have the strengths and unity to fight as we ever did at this Club.

"What is important now is to focus on our targets. Life goes on and we want to show we have the needed desire and strength to deal with the situation.

"It was my decision and I submitted that decision to the board and to the chairman.

"Everybody has his opinion but, at the end of the day, you have to make decisions. To get the best out of a player, he needs to be completely committed to where he is and Cesc wanted to go back to his home city.

"But if you understand one thing, it is Cesc did not go for financial reasons, or that he did not love this Club. Cesc went because he was desperate to play for his hometown team, where he was educated. It is very difficult to resist to that.

"But we wish good luck to Cesc, who is a great player, and in my opinion one of the best players in the world."

as far as I'm concerned, great mental strength would be f*cking an obese chick while sober and not feeling sick. not the excuse of a side we put out.

Having put in a £10 million bid for Messi Wenger is asked why he has not spent any of the transfer funds at his disposal.

"We have been trying to get the right players at this club. Why just the other day we made a bid for Lionel Messi."

After the Man Utd debacle Wenger said this gem - - - "I do feel it (the defeat) was under special circumstances". He used that excuse after the Birmingham defeat FFS. At what stage will this foolish man get it??

And Ferguson came out with this one which kinds sums things up - - - "He has been a big adversary and will continue to be when he gets his big players back." Our big players just moved on to Barca and Man Citeh mate - not much chance of getting them back.

Today's gem from AW;
It's been like two steps forward, one step back
Try one forward, five back.

Definitely my favourite, the old "special circumstances". And what special circumstances exactly dictated the Carling Cup final - 90 minutes of turgid dross, failing to defend a corner properly AGAIN, and a calamatious cock-up by a substandard centre half AGAIN.

I've noted since then the old "special circumstances" has had a regular airing.

In fact, its become the stuff of legend at Chez SteveO. You'll like this Jumpers - my 11 year came stomping out of his room on Friday night with the huff. When I asked him what was wrong, he said "I was beating this kid on FIFA 12, 2-1 in the last minute and then I lost because of flipping special circumstances". When I asked him what he meant, he replied "flipping Mertesacker and Santos ran into each other and left Aguero on his own to tap it in". He then proceeded to show me the highlights reel. I nearly pissed myself. He's even started using the phrase at school now if his team are involved in a cock-up....spreading the Wengerballs comments far and wide !!

Good old "special circumstances" :D

The only place you hear the words 'special circumstances' more often is in reference to what happens at a Jewish Brit Milah!!

Arsene Wenger has claimed that Arsenal are 'becoming stronger' defensively despite another away defeat.

Last Updated: 03/10/11 at 13:22 Post Comment

The Gunners once again looked vulnerable at White Hart Lane as they lost 2-1 - their eighth consecutive away game in the Premier League without a win.

But having lost 8-2 and then 4-3 on their last two trips away from the Emirates, Wenger is looking on the bright side.

"I felt on Sunday that defensively we are becoming stronger," said Wenger
"But we lost the ball from good positions in the final third so we could have done better with our passing.

From F365.

Fabulous.

Do we expect any different from the GIC??

We have continued to half the number of goals againts us away from home

Expect delirium after we lose 0-1 to Sunderland in 2 weeks, then we will really have turned the corner.

Heres the latest gems from the GIC

'It is frustrating because I feel the basis inside the team is very good, that the quality of our play is improving game-to-game, that the attitude of the players is very good.

'But now it is time to transform all of that into positive results, knowing that to win or lose is not down to coincidence. It is down to concrete facts and these at the moment are details and not really basic qualities.

'We were not beaten on the day by a bad performance but because the details you need in big games were not on our side and that was very frustrating.

A new Wengerism is born- "the details were not on our side". What like the scoreline or shots on goal? You're damn right they werent and its because we are shite.

Nice update on the Sagna scenario

'We have Jenkinson, we have Koscielny - who has been educated as a right-back - we have Djourou who can play right-back,' Wenger said. 'Koscielny was always a right-back, so he can play there

'It's more down to Jenkinson because Coquelin has never been at ease as a right-back player,' Wenger added. 'He is not somebody who likes to play at right-back and his confidence is not high when he plays right-back.'

So Koscielny was always a right back?! Then why the FUCK have we been playing up at Centre back you idiot???

Looks like Jenkinson above Coquelin even though Coquelin has put in by far the best performances for the team so far this season.

Just some more quotes to be going on with in the mean time
