England vs Croatia

I never said lack of Arsenal players was the only reason Tony, but it was one of the reasons you gave.

If you have a complete to all international football I can kind of understand that. However you agree that netx summers competiton would be more enjoyable with us there but then sort of contradict this by saying we aint, so what. There must be some kind of disappointment there as next summers football will not be as enjoyable for you or the rest of the country?

I will say that it is certainly not laughable....it is a disgrace! Yes we are over-rated, yes we do live on the memories of 66 and we have certainly under acheived again but that does not make us laughable! It makes us desperate!

You are of course well entitled to your opinion and your attitude to international football as a whole is of course valid! It is to my mind though a different kettle of fish to laugh at your own nations abject failure!

I'm always laughing at my poor national team (40 years since we qualified to a major tourny) and my passion for national football is so tiny in comparison to club football (well, Arsenal football). Not only does the national sides all over the world aren't playing good football like clubs in their country (the big countries anyway), the passion of the players is very low. I can imagine that Shrek, Lumps and Gerrard (how rubbish have these two midfielders played today?) are very happy at the moment.

Oh yeah good point!

So then Arsenal fail to make the Champions League........would we just lightheartedly take the piss out the players then?

Yeah everyone is open to a piss take.......god knows I have had my share of that as we all have on here! I am of the opinion though that the national teams failure is above that just as an Arsenal failure would be.

Sorry Gus the Leg End but I am also an Englishman but have little or no respect for our current national team. I do not like the manager and the majority of the players are not worthy in my opinion of wearing the national shirt.

I am entitled to mock my national team when they continue to embarrass my fine country through failing to live up to their own hype. Less poncy commercials and a bit more effort in matches wouldn't go amiss.

My beloved Arsenal will no doubt be criticised for employing too many foreigners and thus contributing to Englands failings, after all it was only 41 years ago that we were World Champions.

Fair enough mate. As I said, the championships would have probably been more enjoyable if we were there, but we're not, so what? My bed would be a lot more enjoyable if Kylie and Dannii Minogue were there tonight (imagine that, if you will...) but they're not (at least I don't think so) so I'm not going to fret about it.

You have to understand that my ambivalence to the national team isn't just reserved for our failures. When we're playing in major tournaments and we score, sure, I'm happy that we've scored, but you'll never see me going as mental as I do when Arsenal score. The whole world of international football just doesn't grab me. Sorry about that. For that reason, I feel totally entitled to poke fun at the England side because I feel totally detached from them at all times.

You may well not find this to be a laughing matter, as you take England as seriously as you take Arsenal, and trust me, if Arsenal were to finish fifth this season and miss out on the Champions League, I certainly wouldn't be laughing at that. However, I find the whole situation laughable because of the fans', the media's and the players' expectations are all way too high and therefore, in my opinion, they're due a good crash down to earth. Anyway, I think it's pretty clear that hardly any of the players gave a fuck tonight, so with that in mind, if there are few players out there who really give a fuck, then why should I?

There is a huge gulf Wayno between mocking something for its failure and being angry for the same reason!

Yeah 41 years ago we was World champions.......what Englishman would not want to be again!

I remember you felt that way about the national rugby team a few weeks back!

Different sport....still working class national pride!

Agreed Tony and there lies my point!

I am disappointed that OUR players representing OUR national side go out in such a fashion thus promoting such feeling amonst a huge amount of Englishmen!

Anyhow before this turns into a 18 page Cus Geezer special........

So yeah, Kylie and Dannii Minogue...

Come on Mr. Chartered Engineer, cheer up a bit. We've got our beloved Arsenal back at the weekend. Top of the league, McClaren's out and you've got us all here for company. Can't be that bad, can it?

I'm reluctant to put my head above the parapet here but I am more on the who gives a ..... side than any other and i think that applies to the players too.

There was absolutely no passion out there tonight. They would not admit it but all those guys would be far happier getting to the CL final or winning the league than going to the Euros next summer. If you were god and able to say to stevie g, lumps etc there is only one medal you can win this seaon do you think any of them would take the Euro winners one?

on another note the only England game i've been to was v germany in Charleroi enough said.

This is not an anti english rant. I think the same is true of most countries. The exceptions are those that have a good squad who are not all playing in the CL (or at least in with a chance) eg scotland, croatia. Ireland and Wales didn't have any of thier usual passion as they are now mostly PL players.

I think we are watching the death throes of international football and I am sure that the suits in UEFA are shitting themselves in not having one team from the British Isles in the Euros. Collectively we probably account for a huge amount of the advertising revenue for the tournament

Yes Danni and Kylie is a lovely thought Tone.......but the reality is I am married and going to bed with Doris.......who is very lovely by the way and far better than a pair of pert buttocked Aussie sisters anyday (honest love)!

Oh believe me I will be happy at the weekend mate! I am in Prague sipping cool lagers for pennies, watching Arsenal on the box on Saturday afternoon (yes I have found somewhere that is showing it live at 3pm over there) which shall be followed by an educational trip to Darlings!

Life aint so bad hey.......fuck England!

That's the spirit!

Fuck me, you've just had a wedding and been away on your honeymoon; who's funding your trip out there? Must be that wage you chartered engineers are on
