Depends what you mean by "better than", Matt.

If you mean technique-wise then yes he has been surpassed by many guitarists (including most 14 year old kids playing now days!) and particularly players like Rhoads, Malmsteen and Van Halen.

But if we are talking inovation, feel and that hard to quantify "magic" that is down to personal taste, than many many players still consider him the best ever. What Hendrix did was so drastically different, inventive and original that he must at the very least be recognised as one of the true inovators of the genre.

Of course personal taste and influences come into it. For me Randy Rhoads was the best ever, followed by Van Halen, Hendrix and then take your pick of the usual suspects; Vai, Jordan, Vaughan, Malmsteen, Gilbert, Allman, Clapton, Page, Blackmore, Iommi, Johnson, Cooder - the list is endless really.

playing music is different to listening to music, rebel. it's like having a sticky about arsenal's next match and another about the online gooner FC matches. makes perfect sense 8)
