So yeah I'm happy that we are stronger today than we were this time yesterday but there is still that nagging thing of why did we have to do so much panic buying on the last day? Why didn't Wenger identify his targets in March/April and get the ball rolling in May/June and have the much needed players in place for pre-season? It's terrible mismanagement by Wenger.

I am now more confident we will achieve that 4th place spot. Not because we are now THAT much stronger but because of a combo of the fact we ARE stronger to some degree and most of the rest of the PL aren't that good. But is scrapping for 4th place good enough for a club like Arsenal? With our history, tradition and supposed wealth? I think not.
what history and tradition are you talking about mate?
We were a mid table team before Wenger made them title challengers.
what a fucking prick

Am I the only person here thinking the board overruled Wenger and forced him to spend money? Just find it strange that AW has all of a sudden found it in him to spend over £50 mil on players in one summer. And if the only reason Wenger decided to do anything was off the back of an 8-2 drubbing, it shows how unsuitable he is for the role of Arsenal manager. A child coulda told you back in 2009 that Arsenal need desperate, desperate reinforcement.

Wenger has still pissed away our league season already. It's too late now. This shoulda been done ages before.

Wenger Out. £25 million profits, I am not fooled.

It does. If he wanted these players so much it should have been sorted before preseason. As for the players themselves I think they do improve us but how effective they will be (being coached by one-plan Wenger) remains to be seen. :?

The most worrying thing is if we had lost 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 at united last Sunday i really dont think Wenger would have spent

It is quite possible Silent Stan had a word. Who knows? It is equally possible that it was the 8-2 that FINALLY woke Wenger up and to be honest that is worrying... As Flash says if we had not lost 8-2 how many of these signings would have happened? I'd say none. :?

I mean ffs, you have people on here saying they are pleased with the signing of BENAYOUN! When Chelski are lending Arsenal a player, use your brain, and ask yourselves what that must say about the player's quality? Why do you think Silvestre was sold to us then?

I will repeat what I said: people are excited because Wenger has spent so long doing fuck all, that his first half-arsed attempt at acting like a competent manager is being greeted like a golden Jubilee. Arsenal fans should not be praising Wenger for making £25 mil profit in the window imo - which he did.

They should be asking why Arsenal's depth of striking options is worse than WBA, Bolton and cash-strapped Everton. They should be asking why the defensive midfield position is atrociously short, and low on quality and numbers. (Frimpong is not the answer, wake up he is a kid).

I am not going 'to wait and see'. No fucking chance. I have been hearing 'wait and see' for the past seven years and I've had enough of waiting. In those seven years of 'waiting', Wenger has collected over £38 million in personal wages. It's complete bollocks. People are entitled to feel joy, their choice.

It just seems as if Wenger has been feeding some of you shit for so long, that the first crumbs of Ryvita you're given and you think you're munching beluga caviar....

I am also hearing people saying they would be happy with 4th?? Right. So in our 125th year anniversary, after 7 years of mediocrity, many Arsenal fans would be happy going forward by...errr...finishing exactly where we finished so miserably last season!!! Aaaaaand the cycle will continue ad nauseum unti 2014.

Unbelievable.

Completely underwhelmed by all the deals if I'm honest.

Arteta is a bad deal at this stage in his career.

If Mertesacker is a slow as people say he will be criminally exposed by our style of play.

Benayoun is a meh as it gets

And I can't even summon a thought on the left back.

Wake me up in May.

I agree with a lot of what you say but unfortunately with Arsenal over the past 15 years you have to wait and see because we've never signed a massive marquee signing to get yourself excited about. It's very competitive now with City, Manure, Liverpool and Chelski, like it or not, any team in Europe would be battling for a space in our top 4/5.

Henry and Bergkamp were dogs at Juventus and Inter. We only had a purple patch in the early 2000s because he got it perfectly right with all of those relatively unknown players.

I don't think people are greeting this as a golden jubilee or eating caviar, most people are saying "Ok, fine, but this should've been sorted out long ago" like you are saying. Who's head over heels here? :?

Overall we were desperate for numbers and could be seen to be panic buying, I wonder it the 8-2 loss had only been something like 2-0 if the amount of activity would've been the same.

Jenkinson - good prospect, but needs to be loaned out to gain experience

Mertersacker - 75 german caps, brings much needed experience and height to defence

Santos - I have never seen play but 20 brazil caps is encouraging.

Arteta - shame we get him at age 29 and recently had serious knee injury, hopefully he will be able to get back to his previous form.

Benyayoun - smacks of a last minute panic signing, I can't believe AW had any previous intentions of getting him in. Obviously has no long term future with club.

Gervinho - looks fast and direct, early displays look impressive

Ox-Chamberlaine - impressed at Saints, think he has a big future

Park Chu Young - never seen play but captain of Korea, hopefully a typical AW signing that'll come good

Joel Campbell - never seen play

Overall if we had also got Cahill and another proven striker I would feel much more confident about things, maybe the January window will see this happen.

Happy with mertesacker and arteta :barscarf:

Not sure about gervinho, santos and chu chu

Totally underwhelmed by yossi

Not gonna put any expectations on jenkinson, oxtail, campbell cos not fair on them

Nowhere near enough quality players brought in so feeling better than I was last week but still not good enough imo

Wenger still needs to be removed as manager of our club - he is like a cancer eating away at the quality of our club and we will not climbs to the heights our club should be at

As you all know I am anything but pro-Wenger but lots of us seem to be forgetting the signings pre-Old Trafford.

Gervinho and Chamberlain seem very good buys although we still have no idea how Jenkinson fits into the mater plan.

I was never expecting the so called marquee signing but I do think the players that have come in can add to the squad and at least there is some genuine experience there!
