that's the good thing about not being in the comitee anymore: i don't have to do anything, no responsibilities at all, however when something nice like an interview with gilberto comes up i just tell everyone "ok, that one is on me"

Babatunde wrote:On GS not being a Legend. You're narrowly confining the definition of a legend. The people saying 'Cesc will never be a legend' are just bitter. Fabregas was too good for Arsenal and that's why he is in that Barcelona squad.
Not one other player at Arsenal here and now would get anywhere near that Barca squad, no not even Van Persie. He can't play one touch quick enough to do that! (good as he is). Vermaelen might have but he is a crock so no.
Fabregas was a fabulous player and he is not in any way tarnished in my eyes. The person who needs to be questioned is the wnaker who surrounded him with crap - you could stick Messi with this shower and he'd win fuck all.
Gilberto Silva was vitally important to Arsenal imo and did a very very good job positionally. No, you never saw him recklessly bomb up the pitch. He was not a poor player, you do not captian Brazil when you are a poor player. Bollocks I don't buy that. Luzhny won trophies at Arsenal but will never be a legend, he was fucking shit.
Gilberto won trophies and is a legend because he was a major contributor to those trophies (he was one of the players who played the most minutes).
Mind you then again, many Arsenal fans had Manu Eboue as a Cult hero so perhaps I should just shut the hell up...

Got to say I think Gilberto is a case of "don't know what you've got 'till it's gone". When he was here, particularly towards the end of his tenure, he was lambasted by many Arsenal fans. He did slow up play and was known for short passes in his own half (Denilson-esque almost). However, it was clear as day to anyone with half an ounce of sense that he was vital in the "water-carrier" role. He was slow, but he was cute in the sense that he would make fouls that stopped an attack. He never really got booked a lot, which is tantamount to how clever he was. In terms of breaking up play, to allow us to start our attacks, he was crucial.
When he left, it happened without warning, and he never got the send off he deserved. (Utter dis-respect from Wenger). Now we look back on him fondly, as a great player. Alex Song is a clue-less player, who is not fit to lace Gilberto's shoes.
