Probably because he's still hopeful of keeping Van Persie so he doesn't want to rock the boat - either that or he feels stripping RvP of the captaincy will in some way weaken our bargaining position with other clubs.

Whatever the reason, he did a similar thing with Nasri, who captained us before being sold to Citeh.

I can't say I'm too upset about the whole captaincy thing though. One way or the other, it'll be resolved in the next 2-3 weeks, and we can all move on.

In the meantime, it's probably best to expect the worst, and just accept that it's likely to drag on for a while yet. Sp*rs are having similar problems with Modric and Adebayor. Then you have Citeh who have yet to enter the market. It's the way these annoying transfer saga's seem to go.

Personally, I'm staying in my post-Olympic bubble for a little while yet. I feel refreshed, relaxed and looking forward to Sunderland on Saturday. This whole Van Persie saga really hasn't got under my skin at all - probably because I accepted he was going months ago. We've replaced him so it's just down to the formality of actually selling him now, I reckon.

How on earth can you say that Van Persie has been replaced???

yes he has but Podolski and Giroud are hardly in the same class.
it is like Fabregas being replaced by Arteta.

and with RVP gone we are no longer genuine contenders for trophies.

Because we're nothing without RVP

What, after one good season he's now indispensable?

Just sell the :censored: to the highest bidde and give the new boys a good run in the team.

P.S Verm for captain :barscarf:

You've answered your own question, Red.

You're asking how on earth I can say RvP has been replaced, then oddly you agree that he has been replaced :?

I'm not saying he's been replaced adequately. Only time will tell. But yes, I think Giroud and Podolski are here to replace Van Persie. Hardly controversial.

I think AW will give the captaincy tommy v. I certainly don't think that would be too bad but personally I would go for Arteta as he is one of the most experienced players in the team and thr oughout last season he did often seem to be a calming influence in midfield who helped to try and keep song and the likes from going completeley AWOL (didn't always succeed but you'll have to agree its a pretty tough ask!)

He seems to probably have the best temperament for the job and is probably less likely to leave than tommy v as he only joined last summer and is older so hes probably our best chance of keeping a captain for longer than a season

Per would've been the perfect choice if he'd been a guaranteed starter.

In any case I don't want to see RVP as our captain ever again. He's lost the priviledge. We're not a two bob club and we shouldn't let players who disrespect us publicly retain the armband no matter how good they are.

Personally unless he is played at left full tv5 wouldnt be in my starting 11 - this isnt an attempt to be a wum or anything but I honestly feel that the big german alongside either kos or tv5 is our best partnership amongst the 3 of them. For me tv5 gets caught out of position way way too often especially in a team without a proper DM and kos provides my pace around the backline than either of the other two. It did concern me how often mert got dragged out to the right sideline in the first half on sunday but that was probably cos our young rb was looking less than secure defensively so having sagna there might cure that situation

Arteta captain for me 8)

If recent seasons are any indication of what will happen to the player that becomes captain, then I nominate Theo Walcott. We can then look forward to seeing him leave the Club the following season.

Have actually being having a rethink on my previous post and was thinking that I would put sagna as skipper with arteta as vice captain - either which way is ok I guess cos really we have no alternatives :(

Amazing that 4 club captains have left us in the last 6 seasons

Can call it 5 have left in last 7 seasons if you count Gallas, even though he had been stripped of captaincy.

I remember how smug we were when Spurs lost their captain(s). Vermaelen is the obvious choice, but I agree with Arteta for skipper.
