The guy got us cl footy in 08 anyone remember that miserable season? Eboue got booed off.

He scored the winner against barca. The greatest game I have ever seen.

He should have left though last year. We offered clubs him a free. Apparently non club inquired which may either be due to wage demands or just that he is past it.

Either way I have fond memories of the guy. If only AA played behind the striker, like he does for Russia.

Yeah, and I would like to add that he shouldn't let the door bang on his ass on the way out,

but it's physically impossible.

He'll go on my list of talented wastes of space. Fat and lazy will always negate any talent that may occasionally surface.
The fact there isn't a queue of clubs waiting to snap him up suggests that those that matter have a similar opinion.

That'll be DOUBLE doors mate

I always thought he had more to offer but just could not be asked.

I remember when Russia didn't qualify for the world cup and I said to my brother at the time that Arshavin will not be interested in football anymore.

Then a few weeks later I read a comment from him that basically confirmed his disinterest in the game (for which he was handsomely paid  ).

Probably a very nice guy and laid back but unfortunately that's not what we needed from him.

I don't believe this "played out of position" excuse either, he was given games behind the striker and still lacked in quality and desire. And anyhow it's not as if he was not allowed to roam a bit (lets face it all our fekin players roam a bit) and get involved.

Maybe he would have done better with a manger that motivates players like him who probably need the old arm around the shoulder approach, personally I think he needed the old arm around the throat

The views on this link relating to AA all carry some substance, but I really do not know how Wenger could have managed this guy any worse.

The meerkat was brilliant when he came to us, almost single handledly got us into the top 4 after what had been another average season up until then, and then AW got his gloves on him, and hey presto, was never the same player again.

More talent in AA's little toe than in Gervinho's whole body. I was at the QPR game when Gervinho first stunk the place out and then got injured. AA came on, had been on the pitch for less than 5 minutes & did the full back & dinked in a delightful cross which was the catalyst for the winning goal.

Spot on!
I concede his attitude could have been better, but then again why should he have given a flying fuck? Wenger managed him apallingly (now being repeated with Podolski) and as you point out the decision not to start him in the fa cup semi when in match winning form was inexplicable, that defeat then led to us crashing out of the clge and once again season over, aided and abetted by Wenger.

Bang on mate re poldi, another talent being mismanaged by Wanger :banghead: He scored a belter v West Ham then was hardly seen for weeks  i think anyone who tries anything outside Arsoles gameplan ie tippy tappy sideways shite with no end product  will find themselves on the bench sharpish.Arshavin liked to take men on and be direct(to be fair he also seemed partial to a burger or three) but 5mins of AA is more likely to bear fruit than 5months of some banger like forehead :banghead:

Jesus you'd think he was asked to play in goal or something. I don't think it's any secret that playing him on the left wing was hardly getting the best out of him in the long-run but he has to shoulder the vast majority of the blame.

Playing on the left wing was hardly alien to him and was in fact his primary position for us during his early days where he was producing great form. Dropping him for the FA Cup semi was a huge mistake but it's not as though he went months without playing - in 2010/11 he played 52 games and for the half of 2011/12 he was with us he still played 26 times.

It's not like he just didn't quite live up to his potential - he couldn't even get near the squad this season and was appalling the previous 2. Was never willing to put his shift in on AND off the pitch - and as soon as you took away the dazzling displays that was always going to grind.

Mismanaged

If people think that Arshavin had the wool pulled over his eyes then you're sadly mistaken. Do you seriously think he signed for Arsenal and wasn't ever told he'd be played out wide or what the plans were?

He couldn't hack the pace and requirements of the league week in week out. Shame really.

Always reckoned that we would have got more out of him if we tried the old carrot on stick donkey routine but substituted it with a big Mac. Pretty sad that I can remember getting really animated and excited watching him actually track back in one game, shouting encouragement at him and clapping as if it was my young one winning a tackle in kids football. Says it all really. Looked like the new Premiership superstar had arrived that night in Anfield but bar a few glimpses it was a star that fell to earth (with a bang) and burned out all too quickly.

Yes that's exactly what I think, otherwise I don't believe he would have signed, he was duped just as Podolski has been, do you believe Podolski was told he would play wide, whilst a usless fucking french fucking gaylord would play up front and that he would be relegated to the bench, whilst said gaylord played each week missing chance after fucking chance and only managing to score goals which were largely meaningless.
