he is a good player though...
Valid point. If he's this keen to shaft Liverpool after they've given him carte blanche to act as he wants and defended him to the hilt every time, imagine the lengths he'll go to when Madrid or somebody come knocking - and they will.

10).....Are you for real?? As a consequence of the recession the far right represent a worrying minority?
First of all, the world economy causes every race and colour to behave differently, you are actually quite racist yourself to suggest that it's just the far right that is worrying! The failed terrorism plots in several different countries over the past few months have all been planned by muslims, anything to say about that? Without wanting to get into a big political debate (this isn't the place), it's ridiculous and inflammatory to suggest that the signing of a football player wil increase racial hatred and make racists more vocal. Pathetic!! Has Sunderland become a place of racists yet? Just wondered, seeing as Di Canio must have been frog marching in jackboots up and down the promenade according to some!!
Jesus, what a pathetic country the UK has become.

Spot on Tee Cee.

I was just about to respond with almost identical words because the original post is utter rubbish. How the hell is signing Suarez going to "encourage any fans of The Arsenal with EDL sympathies to become more vocal."?? And what has "It's not that long since the Islamic centre in Muswell Hill was torched" got to do with Arsenal FC??

The original poster should stick to watching Citizen Smith or ranting in the student union bar.

Just to add another point.......in my very poor understanding of groups like the EDL, they are patriotic to the extreme? They want english jobs for englishmen etc etc? Well I'm not sure an olive skinned Uruguayan is exactly the sort of poster boy they would be looking for??

TeeCee - Gotta say that there is nothing "racist" in what Martin Hayes has written.

It is just his view that he is worried about the EDL (and there are those in that group that would see themselves as non-racist patriots, others who are far from just being patriotic and inhabit a far right fascist mindset), the rest of his post needs a thread of it's own to go into detailed reasons for recession and racism and so on.

Obviously there are troublemakers from all over the political spectrum but cannot just let posters throw around accusations of racism like that.

I'd like to extend this thread rather than start another one and add the following question to the debate:

If the total package i.e fee plus wages amounted to the same outlay, would you sign Suarez or move in with a serious bid for Rooney?

Very good question Eboue-Why?

Suarez a better player, but Rooney less likely to up sticks after a season!
Both are "trouble".

Honestly I want neither...I think Rooney will need considerable specialist physical conditioning to play as striker for us, and I do not want him as number 10 with Cazorla moved wide, which is a waste of Cazorla.

Both!!

Rooney up front as the battering ram/holding kind of player but with skill and Suarez playing off him. Two guys who have a real winning mentality and who would not suffer some of the fools we have in the squad gladly! Even without a decent holding midfielder, if we had those two up front with Jack, Cazorla and Theo supporting, I think we could challenge for the title. :barscarf:

Really, you want neither?

Who do you want? - the reason I ask that question, is that it has changed significantly over the summer, as all other top strikers (Tevez, Higuain, etc.) are no longer options. Even Jetovic and Benteke are no longer options.

I understand that Rooney and Suarez may be trouble, but surely it's better to have a world class "problem" than go into the season with Giroud as our best centre forward? (who else is there available? :? :( )

Tbh, I'd be intrigued to find out the reasons why the 7 people voted would be OK with us to spend up to £60 million on him  :?

Absolutely crazy money

Bouldy will sort Suarez out.

The environment he is in at the victims encouraged him to take the piss. When he has Dalglish defending him for being a total asshat it's no surprise that he would go and do something silly again.

He won't have that at Arsenal and will behave himself under our staff. I'm sure Wenger will be able to handle/tame him, he's a bigger and better manager than the likes of Dalglish and Rodgers.

can't say I took it too seriously, but I went for £60m because of the way the question is phrased.

Basically, people who put £40m max are saying no they don't want him, as we're already at £40m + £1 already!

So the next milestone is £50m, which is definitely enough... but what about £51m?... maybe?! - after all, it's not my bloody money and I have no idea how much we have!

Anyway, in the end - as £51m wasn't covered by the other options - I had to tick the £60m box even though that's way to much :proudtosay:

At the end of the day I don't think it's in anybody's interests to drag up a topic that was no doubt flogged to death on here but don't you think it's funny how obviously the first time he used this word since moving to Europe happened to be that instance, and that he didn't realise when he repeated it for the 20th time that it was clearly causing offence.

A long lost Aunt of Suarez has revealed that they would always bite each other as a welcome - just read an article in Cannibal News :barscarf:
