Oh I know, mate. My point is that at this stage in the window any slight chance we have of signing the top quality we need can only be "helped" by offering them CL football. We need to sign at least 4 or 5 top players and they should be from top clubs that are in the CL. Fuck yeah I know we won't in my heart, but if we end up in the Makita not only will we not sign anyone even half decent we will lose the last few good players we have next summer.

I've never bought that old bollocks about needing the CL to attract players because we haven't signed one world class player in how many CL seasons? BUT at THIS stage in this window we have got to aim at CL level players and so we would need to offer them that to have any hope of signing them.

But TBH, I don't believe we will make the signings we need no matter what happens.

Isn't it funny that I haven't heard one other manager anywhere in the PL saying how difficult it is to sign players, how the market has changed, and how hard they work at it. They just find a player they like, offer the right amount of money, agree a deal with the player and its done. In United's case if you go for a Thiago or Cesc and it doesn't happen, it still doesn't become a 2 month drama played out to cries of 'analysing every single player in the world, 24/7'.

We are an absolute embarrassment when it comes to completing transfers. Don't anybody tell me that we don't miss David Dein

For all Dein's ills (Wembley??!! :x ) I have to agree that we have been absolute shite in the market since Dein "left". No other club fucks about the way we do. I blame Wenger, I blame Ivan The Terrible, and I blame the Board. All incompetent arseholes. Nothing will change until they are all gone.

Absolutely agree steve o - this fcuking greedy corporate cuntbag competition's importance has ben vastly overplayed by the akb in recent seasons - maybe for other clubs qualifying is vital but we never try to buy A list (or even B list) players anyway so what is the fcuking point of it ? I dont go along with DB's suggestion that failing to qualify will see our last few good players departing next summer - firstly it seems to have been forgotten that sagna will (in all likelihood) be leaving on a bosman one way or another but secondly, the best players want to win medals so qualifying alone wont be enough to keep wilshere and cazorla especially if we finish 16+ points behind the leaders again this season

Tbh playing our football on thursday nights is the only reason why I wouldnt want us beaten by the turks cos otherwise I would be quite contented losing to an 8-0 aggregate score 8)

In many ways playing out terrible matches in front of 30,000 people on a Thursday night against shite from Eastern Europe will be the sort of thing that will disturb sponsors and as I've mentioned before only one thing will hurt Kroenke and that is cash

Whether you like the CL or not (and personally I detest the thing with every bone in my body) it makes Kroenke money. The Europa League loses money. The year Rangers made the final I remember them stating that until they reached the final they had actually lost money when you took into account gate receipts and dreadfully low prize money versus the costs of the matches.

Kroenke will get everything he deserves when we're playing Shamrock Rovers on a Thursday night and offering kids for a quid, whilst his beloved corporates leave the boxes unsold

Totally agree with you on this SteveO, I haven't been to any CL games since the Udinese league game a couple of years ago, (gutted that I couldn't get a beer on the concourse  ) I also hate the competition with a passion and really want us to go crashing out.

If some big names aren't coming in, then I don't think I have ever wanted a result as much as a crushing defeat on Wednesday night.

You must be mistaken frank....we were reliably informed a few years ago that beer is indeed sold inside the ground on champs league nights and the source was a trustworthy source 8)

There's no way Rangers lose money by playing extra football matches
Their gate receipts are very good...

Nobody who will actually be going to Euro away games wants us to lose.
Just the part timers amongst us.

Sorry their Chief Exec and CFO must be wrong and we bow to your superior knowledge

The cost of hosting games and travelling to outposts where prize money is virtually non existent can easily outweigh the costs of everything you need to organise a match actually

Whilst I don't think that alone will drive the best players we have out, I was kind of inferring that if we do fuck all again in the PL this year, having spent a year in the Makita without winning it and got knocked out of both domestic cups and then next May we don't qualify for the CL I reckon it might be the last straw, so to speak, that drives those few last good players out. They seem to have had no problem sticking around for the last few seasons with CL footy but no trophies... so I'm thinking no CL might be the final wake up call for those players that Project Wenger has failed.

Should also state that I fucking hate the CL. It's a boring bloated piece of shit of a competition. Would love it to go back to the proper European Cup that it was. Of course it never ever will. :|
