Welcome: Mohamed Elneny

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Im sure we all hope he can propel us to the title, time will tell but if he isn't the enforcer / physical presence we sorely lack then it will be yet another wasted opportunity with a title very much up for grabs if we had the gumption to actually go for it.

This guy could be like Gilberto (an unknown from a not so good league coming and storming the league and being crucial to the team) or he could be.....shit  :barscarf:

In the last couple of seasons Basel have done well in Europe - qualified from a champions league group that included Real Madrid and Liverpool, knocked the tiny totts out of UEFA only to lose to Chelsea at the semi stage .

Hope he can bring some qualities we lack, enthusiasm, endeavour, never give up attitude and the ability to get the ball from the opposition.

Looking forward to seeing him play rather than a sadly past it Arteta.

He's comparing the fact that the 2 players were unknown before they joined us and didn't come from particularly strong leagues.

None of us know anything about this guy ,but because he hasn't come from a big club we seem to have decided he's not good enough.

Or Vardy at Leicester?

FFS Let's at least give him a chance before writing him off - who knows maybe he will make the mid-field more stable and help shield the BFG from haviing to turn away like a cotton blouse in a soft summer wind... :banghead:

I remember PV4 debut in 1996 v Sheffs weds as a sub for Ray.

He looked like a thoroughbred, at the time had no idea who he was but he looked special evening warming up.

I wouldn't really grumble if this was a measured summer signing.

The issue is that he is only being signed now because we have injuries at CM and are in a title race - even though nobody could reasonably expect him to have an immediate impact given his background.

He is a long-term signing to address an immediate need.

^^^This x 1000000

People seem to think that we are writing the guy off or rubbishing him without seeing him play and that is nowhere near the truth but it seems no matter how many times we say it, they refuse to recognise the point we are making - whoever we signed for the DM position needs to be ready to make an impact NOW because it is now that the chance is there to win this league. When a club is in the position that we now find ourselves, new signings are expected to come in and make a positive difference and that applies whether the signing is elneny, carvalho, bender or whoever - if elneny is the ONLY midfield signing, then I think that it is totally understandable for fans to assume that the manager and club see him as being the answer in that position this season. If we then fail to kick on in the second half of the season, then like it or not, his signing will be judged as a mistake.
In my opinion we should be signing a carvalho or bender as well as elneny, and this would then allow the guy time to bed in
