Goodbye to the Boleyn

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

SHL looked like a run down Glasgow tenament from the outside, the Bridge was a joke of a place with disabled drivers parked next to the pitch on the dog track, OT was the original concrete bowl and let's not get started on Ayresome Park. Highbury was beautiful when it was tarted up but look at pictures of it from the 60's and early 70's and it was scruffy. Memories of using the bog on the North Bank still make me constipated! Things are more civilised now but not necessarily better.
That was a mad place. Those Smoggies were right up for it. I went up there a few times in the 80s and every time we had trouble and we weren't even looking for it.
The ground was locked in on all sides by terraced housing and getting in and out was a nightmare for any away fan.
I remember even the toilets were completely open to the skies, I don't think it had changed since they built the place.
Have to say I loved going there though, plenty of character

Ayresome park another nightmare place they used to through darts over the fence so they erected a green screen to try and prevent missiles from coming over ! Total fail !

I recall going to Oxford Utd for a midweek cup game many years ago, I think the one when Pat Jennings fumbled a long range shot into the net.
The Manor Ground was a dump, even for the 80's, walking around back alleys to get in. mind you the home crowd noise was something to witness.
I dont miss it.

Fuck off Upton Park.

Never a patch on Highbury - even when Highbury had been out on the town as an extra in the film Trainspotting.

Watching the athletics at the Olympic Stadium. Crap stadium for football. I think in 2-3 years all the old fans will stop going.

Crap stadium for football indeed but getting it for nothing and having it's running costs paid for them probably reduces it's crapness in their eyes.

Looks shit to me. Generic Lego-Bowl with the fans miles from the pitch. Just what the murderers deserve. :x

Were all those empty seats part of the plan or can they not fill the place even with giving away tickets?

a colleague of mine is a West Ham season ticket holder.

I just asked him what it was the atmosphere was like yesterday and he just said "it was different" = it was shit

apparently the gap between the pitch and the stands is what looks really odd

the thing is he paid £300 for his season ticket....so he isn't going to complain too much

Yeah this new stadium looks even more of a monstrosity than ours. I've got a couple of mates who support West Ham and I've been telling them for ages that they'll grow to hate the place and be pining for their old one once the novelty wears off.

West Ham are mirroring us in many ways and from a football perspective are making a lot of the same mistakes. Their new badge and re-branding is dreadful and it has the fingerprints of that poisonous bitch Karen Brady all over it.

'' West Ham United - London '' How desperate is that?!
