First off I went for "Bridge Over The Road" but once I listened to the "Impossible Dream" I was hooked.
Would the Club not have to pay for this song to be played over the PA? This might be a problem.
Also on the atmosphere. What about a large flag or kit to be passed around the North Bank lower tier and two Junior Gunners with huge flags between the advertising boards and the first row of seats. Just for before the game. Not like Bolton do when they score, I think that's so tacky.

i will do that friday - promise! struggling for time a bit this week. but will download it and give it a few plays on the old i-tunes. was that the del shannon one (without looking back through a very long thread - and i am glad we've got 6 pages worth as it shows people are thinking about this)? if it isn't, i'll do the spadework and find out the artist.
wish arsene had the answer to everything

Isn't the chorus the main bit? Mickeys only sing the whole of YNWA when it's played over the PA when they are singing it out of their own free will they only sing the chorus. And as for the crowd stopping it just needs someone to start it off again.dbrien wrote:yes it is the Del Shannon song.
as for the impossible dream, I like it but isnt it a bit too long? Everytime you would start to sing it, the crowd would stop beacuse of a chance on goal etc
To dream the impossible dream....

Feedback from the other sites. Second most popular "we'll drink, drink together in the praise of the AFC", third "You are my Arsenal"and "B'Jesus said Paddy", a few for "One step beyond". There is also calls for a remake of a old skool arsenal classic like "roll out the red carpet".
Will come back with somemore feedback next week.

hmmmm... not sure the other sites totally appreciate what we are trying to do here. none of these 3 are the type of songs to lift the hairs on the back of the neck really. they are good chants, but hardly in the YNWA mould - otherwise they'd be much more widely and regularly sung during games anyway. think we really need something that is not an already established arsenal tune, but at the same time is a fairly well know song (or can be picked up easily).
Gooner ed I totally disagree with you, Impossible Dream will make everyone's hairs stand on their kneck no doubt, have you listened to it? You say you want a song that builds up to the chorus and this song is perfect, the lyrics are emotional and amazing, me thinks maybe you are trying gain a song that is of personal preference to yourself..? Because every gooner I've spoken to loves the impossible dream.
Accidently switched TV to BBC3 tonight and stumbled across "Land of Hope & Glory". If that doesn't make the hairs stand up then nothing will....and we've already got the words! "We all follow the Arsenal, over land & sea....". Imagine that booming out of the tannoy before kick off! Its even featured on our "profile" in FIFA 2007!!gooner.ed wrote:.... to lift the hairs on the back of the neck....
Also....& I did mention this on an earlier thread......"Danny Boy"! Anyone who's watched Peter Kaye's live video will know how this one gets the crowd going and hairs on neck upstanding!:
"Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.
All we need is someone with a way with words to turn it into our song. I'll start you off....."Oh Arsenal, the lads, the lads are calling
From Finsbury Park and down Gillespie Road
The seasons gone...etc etc.
On fifa it sounds great but for sum reason they say and tottenham..MK Gould wrote:Accidently switched TV to BBC3 tonight and stumbled across "Land of Hope & Glory". What about"We're on the ball" used to be a Arsenal song and then ant and dec nicked it and changed the words.
I think people are getting a little carried away; we're on the ball is a pop song with a high tempo and no build up to it. If we want that (which we definetly won't) then we might as well go for we will rock you as 60,000 hands clapping together would be electrifying.
Impossible dream is the dogs bollocks and that's not coming from just me, it's coming from around 50 gooners I've asked as well as dozens of forums out there.

wasn't referring to 'the impossible dream' when i was referring to three songs popular on other sites. said earlier i will back this if it's chosen when we do the vote, and appreciate that it fits the criteria even if it isn't a personal favourite of mine. sure if there are 60,000 gooners singing it though it will convert me double quick.rambo wrote:Gooner ed I totally disagree with you, Impossible Dream will make everyone's hairs stand on their kneck no doubt, have you listened to it?
