I'm still there but you're not missing much. Clichy (yes, that's right) just hit a good free-kick which was just wide.

The most telling thing about the second half was AW yawning for a good 30 seconds at about 85 mins. :goingtobed:

Well, what can one say? That was very painful to watch.

It was a bit like ground-hog day with the same players who played well on Saturday - Wilshere, Coquelin, Sagna and Ramsey doing well or okay today; and the ones that played shit against Barnet - Denilson, Bendtner (although a bit better), Theo (despite his goal), Lansbury and Randall - also playing shit tonight.

The brothers Hoyte had a shocking first half and although I'm prepared to give Gavin more time, Justin should be shown the door. Justin Hoyte was a fine footballer when he was younger but he has stood still and is now plainly not up to scratch for a team hoping to challenge for trophies.

Randall seems a yard too slow in his thinking, and his passing - which is usually one of his strengths - was pathetic; in turns either playing it too short in the hope of a 1-2, pinging it too hard at a team-mate which gave them no chance to control it, or simply not reaching his intended target.

Despite getting increasing angry with the shoddy performance of some players in particular and the team in general, I wasn't going to post anything on tonights match. I told myself not to get carried away because, as the increasingly irritating Perry Groves kept saying over and over again: Arsene likes to ease players into it... using it to gain fitness... blah, de blah, de blah blah .... :banghead: :banghead:

And as if things couldn't get worse, I had to watch it all and then listen to the 'expert' opinion of the omnipresent - don't they have anyone else (celebrity or otherwise) who can represent the fans point of view? - Shovell refusing to say anything that could remotely be construed as critical!!  :banghead:

I know it was pre-season and we were missing a number of the first team but still, we were playing a hungarian 2nd division side that made Barnet look like Man United!! If you can't look good against them, then you really will be struggling.

I know, I need to chill out a bit more.

Glad I missed it by the look of it!

The thought of the Brothers Grim (Hoyte) playing together at the back frankly scares the crap out of me!

it was a friendly after two and a half weeks of pre-season training and probably a heavy training session during the day against a poor side with about 60 % of our first team missing.

It's impossible to take much out of a game like this (or Barnet), positive or negative.

The first friendly you can use to judge players will be Stuttgart.

oh, and hello. I'm new.

I agree with most of what you said there IHH  8) If we play justin hoyte anymore in pre-season we wont be able to sell him cos no fucker will buy him looking at performances like this  Randell to me was piss poor again tonight and what was worse was I thought he looked very fucking arrogant or lazy in his attitude and passing  :x

I do disagree with you re denilson - I also thought he was piss poor on saturday but I thought he looked better than ramsey tonight and after a poor first 20mins I thought bedtner livened up a lot.

For those of you that think we are a little bit short at the back you may want to think again - in the 1st half our full backs (sagna & clichy) looked as solid as ever and in the 2nd half our centre backs (sagna & clichy) looked unbeatable. Now if we can only find a way to get them to play all 4 positions across the back we'll be sorted   :banghead: Anybody else puzzled as to why sagna was played in a meaningless game tonight when he is meant to be struggling with that ankle injury ? :?

I do have to concur with some of perry's comments during the match - in my opinion the only things missing in a match like this are sharpness and stamina fittness but there should be no excuse for lack of basic ball control or interest/effort. :x

thanks for the welcomes :D

These early pre season friendlies are never pretty. I remember being in the stadium in Salzburg last year and I was really worried by what I saw. A couple of days later at the Emirates cup the same players looked like a different team.

Obviously you still want to do well and the fringe players should be out to impress, but at this stage it's too early to say much.

I'd definitely give it a few more weeks before getting worried. There's gonna be a couple of signings, the players will be in much better shape and there will be real competition for a spot against West Brom.

I'd take the positives for now. Sagna looking like he's getting back to being fully fit, Clichy revelling in the captains role, Wilshire and Ramsey impressing etc. is a lot more important than concentrating on the 2 Hoyte brothers that will never partner each other at centre back in a meaningful game anyway. In the end it was little more than a training game.
