http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/40 ... ts_in.aspxGlasgow Celtic are on the verge of beating Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to the signing of free agent Sol Campbell. The BBC are reporting that the former England defender is in Glasgow for talks with Neil Lennon with a view to signing a two-year-deal with the football club.
The 35-year-old defender has been offered a two-year-deal by Neil Lennon, but only a one-year-deal by Arsene Wenger, which is in keeping with Arsenal’s over thirty policy. The double winner will spend the day looking around Celtic Park and the club’s Lennoxtown training ground.
Sol Campbell won two Premier League trophies with Arsenal in a five-year-spell before moving to Portsmouth where Campbell won the FA Cup under manager Harry Redknapp. Campbell proved his fitness training with the Gunner’s last term after a bizarre spell at Notts County, eventually signing a short term contract at the Emirates stadium helping Wenger’s men in the race for the title and Champions League glory.
If Campbell sigs for Celtic he will compete with Stephen McManus, Glenn Loovens, Jos Hooiveld, Thomas Rogne and talented Irishman Darren O’Dea for a starting place. Meanwhile Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is expected to announce the signing of French centre-half Laurent Koscielny from FC Lorient.
THE PROJOE TOTALLY POINTLESS TRANSFER RUMOUR THREAD
Celtic on verge of Campbell deal as Sol jets in
First of all, good luck to Sol. He has obviously had his problems, but hopefully proved last season that he is recovered. And I don't blame him if he is indeed going to accept the deal at Celtic. Arsenal, for good reasons, couldn't guarantee him first team football and were never going to offer him more than a year.
However.....think I'm going to scream if I hear one more mention of this young guy who plays for some French team that I for one have never heard of and who hasn't yet made an international appearance. He is at most a good prospect but surely, please tell me, surely, Wenger isn't planning on pairing him with Vermalen as a first choice CB partnership....

Note sure exactly what you mean but I'll guess its that you think its that I should be looking at this as glass half full not half empty....rigsby wrote:hey if he's good then they'll be put together. Your fear that he's shit, should only be the same as your hope that he's good.
Well I think that if you pick up someone in their mid to late 20's who already plays for a top club, in a top league and is already an international then its kind of low risk. They could turn out to be duffers, but on the majority of occasions they are going to come good and be immediately ready to play for a team challenging for the Premier and Champions League.
Whereas if you pick up someone in their early 20's who plays for a tin pot club, in an inferior league and who isn't yet an international then its kind of high risk if you expect to stick them straight into the first team. They could turn out to be the best thing since slice break, but on the majority of occasions they are going to struggle....
Villa ready to snap up Gunners star
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Tr ... 02369.htmlArsenal's Croatian international Eduardo has told his agent to he wants to quit North London - and is a target for Aston Villa.
The 27-year old has struggled to hold down a regular place in Arsene Wenger's team since returning from his horrific broken leg and dislocated ankle at Birmingham, failing to score in 12 matches for the Gunners last season.
With Wenger adding Marouane Chamakh to his front-line, Villa's Martin O'Neill has enquired about the Brazillian-born striker in a bid to replace the departing John Carew.

He may well have turned out to be quality if he hadnt suffered his injury, but since then hes lost his bottle and isnt the same player, yet another in a long line who isnt good enough for usMK Gould wrote:I wouldn't want to see Arsenal rush to let him go. RVP is so injury prone that I could see Chamakh partnering Eduardo by October..... He has had a hard time since the injury, but I still feel that Eduardo is quality and definitely wouldn't want to see him strengthen one of our rivals....

Arsenal Seek Meeting Over Benfica's Halliche
Arsenal have spoken to the agent of Benfica defender Rafik Halliche, according to reports in France. The 23-year-old is currently on holiday after featuring for Algeria at the World Cup, but a meeting has been planned with the players agent to discuss his availability in the coming days.
Halliche joined Benfica after impressing for Algerian outfit Hussein Dey, and is widely regarded as one of Africa’s most promising young centre backs. The Portuguese outfit sent him on loan to Nacional for two seasons to gain vital experience, and although he sustained some niggling injuries, Rafik largely impressed.
Arsene Wenger has been commentating on Algeria’s matches during this World Cup, and instructed an official to seek talks with the appropriate representatives. Now, according to sources close to Chronofoot.com, Arsenal have booked Halliche’s agent into a hotel room in North London and want to hold further talks regarding a potential transfer.
It’s thought that the powerful centre half would join fellow youngster Håvard Nordtveit in battling for a first-team place, should the Gunners decide to press on with a bid.
