Official World Cup Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I told you on June 4th.

Schweinsteiger very likely to be out on Sunday, so the three lions will win...as long as there is no penalty shoot-out 8)

O.K. guys, you know I´m german, so I know the german team. Here´s my in depth comparison:

goalkeeper:
Neuer vs James: advantage Germany

center backs:
Mertesacker vs Terry: advantage England
Friedrich vs Upson: balanced

right back:
Lahm vs Johnson: advantage Germany

left back:
Badstuber or Boateng vs Cuntley: advantage England

holding midfield:
Khedira and Schweinsteiger (if available) vs Barry: advantage Germany

left midfield:
Podolski vs Gerrard: advantage England

right midfield:
Müller vs Milner: advantage England

central midfield:
Özil vs Lampard: advantage England

forward:
Klose or Cacau vs Rooney and Defoe: advantage England

Ozil has looked good though hasn't he? He looked brilliant against Australia.

While Lampard hasn't exactly set things alight for the Poms.

Özil looked good, but misses a lot of chances as well.
He is unexperienced on this level so I think in a game like Sunday Lampard could flay him alive :(

True...but that's balanced by Lampard being English.

Rooney will score.
And Defoe is too quick and feisty for Mertesacker and Friedrich.

Poor team selection going into the world cup and poor team selection during it.

Why they brought a reluctant Lippi back is beyond me  was looking forward to Holland smacking Italy in the next round :banghead:
