Groundhog summer transfer window thread
Re: January transfer rumours thread
Our prayers have been answered (well some posters on here's prayers anyway)
And the Gunners could also sign France striker Loic Remy, 27, after Queens Park Rangers player said that he does not know if he will return to Loftus Road after his loan at Newcastle ends.

I guarantee those advocating signing this bloke will be back a year later moaning about how he's just another average Ligue 1 player on a par with Forehead. He was fucking useless against us BTW

Re: January transfer rumours thread
I know this opinion is not going to be popular but although Berbatov is hardly an exciting prospect, I believe he would be very astute signing.
He has all the technical qualities to fit straight in to our system and lead the line, is settled in London and fully adjusted to the rigours of the Premier League. He is exactly what we need right now.
As a red faced member of the angry mob who condemned the Flamini signing, Wenger previous uninspired cheapskate option, it quickly became apparent that although not glamorous, he was exactly what we needed and the transfer was a complete no brainier. This could turn easily turn out similar.

He's as much what we need right now as Fellaini was in the Summer.djvandyke wrote:I know this opinion is not going to be popular but although Berbatov is hardly an exciting prospect, I believe he would be very astute signing.

A lone striker in our system actually has to put in a lot of work. Berbatov last put in a decent shift about 5 years ago.
We will be a fucking laughing stock if we sign this goon

I'll say the same thing as I said last summer.....remy would be a good back up striker if we sign a top quality striker as well. Remy would also be a good signing to play off someone like giroud if the CIC ever goes 4-4-2 again

Re: January transfer rumours thread
As you say - if we ever went 4-4-2 I could see that.....but he doesn't whether its Cardiff at home or Bayern away so in that regard I would see it as a waste of money. Remy is no more a loan striker than Walcott or Podolski are so having another "wide man" option doesn't improve the first team. We need someone better than Giroud and capable of playing the lone striker role. Only a few are capable of it and if he won't sign them I'd rather we kept the money until 3 years down the line we get a manager who mightaugie wrote:SteveO 35 wrote:Our prayers have been answered (well some posters on here's prayers anyway)

Re: January transfer rumours thread
if we had played 4 4 2 yesterday I am sure we would have been about 2-0 up by half time
Re: January transfer rumours thread
We went 442 for about 30 seconds yesterday and got the first goal.

Re: January transfer rumours thread
This Berbatov business is picking up steam which is worrying for reasons already mentioned by others.
Wenger would of course fuck up our best chance at a trophy by going with the cheap option, how is anyone surprised? We're not dealing with a progressive manager. For him saving money is some sort of thrill, when it works then he gets praised as a shrewd smart man in the midst of obscene transfers and if it fails then it's no big financial loss to his employers and we can look forward to another transfer window to exercise our 'financial firepower.'

Would be a good signing. The guy makes intelligent runs, good in the air and very skillful. He's not been good this year, but neither have the team. January is a tough market, and all of the players we want are not going to leave. I read Gary Neville this morning saying he thought it was a good fit and why for the short term, and it made total sense. I for one would be a lot mroe confident seeing Berbatov lead the line if Giroud gets injured. Remember, that Giroud is the first choice.
Re: January transfer rumours thread
Giroud should never be the first choice, ever. We are stuck with him for the foreseeable future due to the inability of the manager to sign a proper world class striker.rigsby wrote:Would be a good signing. If this happens we have bang average Giroud with an old past it ex spurs ex man u player who is lazy and won't do a better job than Giroud in the lone striker role as backup. Hold on, I just shot my load in my pants...

Berbatov?
5 goals in 16 games for Fulham this season.
If Bendtner had not got injured yesterday I would not remotely want Berbatov, but if we are desperate, and we are desperate, then better than nothing as a six month loan.
Just do not feel Podolski or Walcott are suited to the lone striker role in the way we currently play, and whilst Akpom or Afobe might be, they seldom even make the bench.
But someone will come, I always remember Wenger denying any signings one January transfer window, then Reyes arrived.
As for Remy it is by no means certain that Rosicky will stay for next season, there are rumours of a lucrative MLS contract in the offing.
Remy or Mata would be good replacements, not exactly like for like, but with our midfield depth either would be worthwhile.

Sweet jesus....I cannot believe that there is any Gooner insane enough to believe barbietov to be a good signing for us

Personally I am not sure whether diego costa has the ability to adapt to the premier league but I would much rather spend £30m on him than £2m on the lazy Bulgarian.

Ibrahimovic will sign and all will be well
.
All jokes aside I wouldn't be disappointed if we got Berbatov, but I'm not really sure if he would offer us anything any different than what Giroud would do.

Re: January transfer rumours thread
I can already hear the chants of "Arsene Wenger, we want you to stay" ringing around Stamford Bridge as they sign Costa and we send our message of intent by picking up Berbatov
