Wenger quite clearly stated we didn't need him as we have enough players in that position. The fact that wenger didn't anticipate Arteta, Diaby, Wilshere, Ramsey, Ozil and Rosicky being out injured at some point of the season makes you wonder if he knows his players. All 6 were out for 2-3 months last season why did he not think it would happen again?? I believe Fabregas would've come back had wenger approved the moved, why else would we have a first option clause written into his contract? The board should've been stronger and showed more foresight and overruled wenger on this one. After all that's what they get paid to do.

You also forget there was a buyback clause in his deal that the club never activated, confirmed by Barca, confirmed by Cesc, confirmed by his agent, never denied by the club. I thought the sale of RVP was high treason but this is actually worse as Cesc is now the heartbeat of their team. And if Le Twat ever wanted a key player from Jose, it'd never happen.
