Phil Smith football agent just said that deal was about £16.5M .
Makes it record Arsenal signing, because although Reyes was "up to" £17M we did not pay all of it as there were a lot of unpaid add ons.
Deal was hard because,
"One director was high up in Gazprom and was hard to contact, one was in hospital in Israel and one was on business in Somalia".
Sounds like hard work.

I hope arshavin is brilliant for us but i still say if barca or real, manc, chelsea had thought so highly of this player they would have got him we no longer have that pulling power required to get big players easily, and what idiot said no other big teams went for henry, we got him from the old lady of football (juve to you). How much bigger? And we paid BIG money for the time for bergs thats why we got him and other big clubs were in for him but we outbid the lot.1995 for the price of £7.5 million, when you consider that in 1993 he went to inter milan for 12 million the second highest transfer in the world at the time thats why we secured bergs so easy.
I didn't mention reyes as a panic buy but said he is a very similar player, very small and if my memory is correct reyes spent most of his time on his arse as i expect will arshavin. Hope not but i also thought reyes was at times brilliant and workd his nuts off when he wanted too but the premier league was just too physical.
And i think we have rushed into signings before whether or not all you professional writers disagree or not.

Tony - you are loosing it mate. You just posted on the anthem thread!tonysaunders wrote:Maybe I should make this a sticky! I can't remember the last time we had a thread this long. How long was the anthem one?!

I would remind you that the Basil thread was approx 60 pages long before if got "relegated" to the basement and then "accidently" deleted by a mod.

But the memory remains........

To be honest I very much doubt he will become a great player for us long term. Russians usually find it hard to go abroad and I can see him going the way Reyes did. Hopefully the fact that he's 27 helps though and I'm happy with the signing anyway as at the moment we need all the creative players we can get and even if he's just here for a season he should be a great help for us until May at least.

Listen chum I don't want to get into a slangin match but ........ you DID say that you considered this transfer as a "desperate" signin, very similar to the Reyes dealLeftfootlegendGooner wrote:Belfast Boy wrote::awnker:LeftfootlegendGooner wrote:Damn you guys are all so insightful didn't realise most of you lot worked at the arsenal and have inside info.

Chum? Thats what my lab eats, sounds very patronising, i preferred being called a twat or whatever it was. I do think it was desperate and so it turned out in the end and I think we are trying to bring in a player almost identical to reyes and it didn't work then, I hope this arshavin is brilliant. I am not in a slanging match, I never get upset with all this banter after all it is just words and most of us no very little really but we are all intitled to our opinion and I have one and so do you and if i was/am wrong in anything i write i will be in good company, so no hard feelings just agree to disagree at times.LeftfootlegendGooner wrote:Belfast Boy wrote::awnker:LeftfootlegendGooner wrote:Damn you guys are all so insightful didn't realise most of you lot worked at the arsenal and have inside info.
