Cool story that.....but he did say "imagine how big that would be"brazilianGOONER wrote: i think football is more complicated than that. we let too many goals in, agreed, but that does not necessarily mean we don't have good defenders, and i am hoping that bould can bring a bit of his quality as a defender to organize the side. i like our right backs, i like 3 of our centrebacks, and honestly, even though santos can't defend, i think he can improve at least a bit in that side of his game.
i remember when batistuta, one of the greatest strikers of his time, was asked why he spent 10 years at a club who didn't win a single thing (fiorentina), and he said: it's easy to win it with the big teams who always buy the best players, but if i managed to win something there, imagine how big that would be.
they made a fucking statue of him. i wish there were more footballers wishing stuff like that. i for once thought that maybe rvp would be the guy to bring our first trophy backmaybe i'm just being bitter, but i can't help but feel that there is not much difference between him, ashley, adebayor... in the end, they want top money to spend with their families, it doesn't really matter which fans he is playing for, and showing respect back to the fans isn't really a priority...
I am sick and tired of imagining and yet who the fuck am I? Just another Arsenal supporter. I would "imagine" RvP to have better inside info to make a decision about our clubs ambition. He obviously can't even imagine that possibility so he feels it's his reason to leave. I have no ill feelings if he does, I blame the lame *word censored* that are running our club at the moment.

tbh, just add Vertoghen to that list and I'll be happy. I will still be upset that RvP has left though.Vinny1967 wrote:And with the signing of M'Vila (or a decent DM), Clint Dempsey and Craig Gordon I would be happy with the summer dealings.SammyDroppedHisShorts wrote:I am not at all bothered about this issue.

Re: Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.
in the one season he managed to stay fit... when i mean replace henry, i mean a guy who we know can bang them in regularly, not only during a season, but the entirety of his contract. we never bought a class striker because wenger always thought he could depend on rvp, for which he was right in 1,5 of his 8 years at the club...SammyDroppedHisShorts wrote:Goals dude.....goals...RvP scored at a very strong rate...brazilianGOONER wrote:ermm, i'm not really sure henry was ever replaced mateSammyDroppedHisShorts wrote:I am not at all bothered about this issue.

Re: Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.
It wasn't just the goals with Henry, or even the assists, it was the aura and status as well. RvP carried us plenty of times this year and was a figurehead but I bet he didn't make defenders shit themselves like when they knew they were coming up against Henry. I don't think it's really fair to expect anybody to replace him, he's just one of those players you have to say comes round once a generation and you just have to wait til the next one. RvP was class this year and the end of last season but he was no Henry.

Where does everybody think he'll end up? My money's on City, can't see Madrid being interested although today's whore-ish statement may well prick Barca's ears for another of their vulture campaigns.
Not sure he can legitimately claim to have gone based on ambition alone if he goes to Juventus, Serie A is a piss-poor league in comparison and they still start as rank outsiders to win the CL. I don't give a fuck if they went unbeaten last year, they are not a great team.
Let me make this clear, I wouldn't sell him to United at any price, I would rather see him rot in the reserves.

That would be Mark Gonnella the communications 'guru' at the club who managed to come up with those two paragraphs of utter shit!
Re: Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.
He'll go to City, because they'll pay him >£200k a week and will win trophies, it ain't rocket science. How some mug Arsenal supporters thought he wasn't leaving I don't know. If Wenger signs two players in one position, it means he is selling someone and the club knew it months ago! Everybody in management at Arsenal are money grabbing scum and they'll bite Citehs hand off for 20m for Van Persie, and then old Uncle Wenger, the senile old duffer will say....'we have signed two world class forwards to replace one, for minimal outlay'.
Arsenal football club are a complete joke, a selling club, a feeder club. One of Europes elite? What a joke, we're as much a bunch of also rans as Liverpool and nothing is going to change until we get a manager that demands action from the board rather than sucking their ***** to earn his fortune and have no accountability for failure.
Vermaelen is off next, followed by Jack and the football world will laugh their socks off at the worlds richest mid table club.

Hold on a second ,who has said he has gone anywhere ???
His statement is an honest one and might yet be his last gambit in a bid to force the club in further strengthening
the squad which they clearly don't want to do unless they are forced !
His statement also slays the myth that Giroud isn't a replacement for him, as that is exactly what he is and everyone now knows it,keeping schtum until now has probably saved us a few quid too.
If City will pay good gold for him then Arsenal will be keen to sell him no matter what they say in public .
If he goes though and we get the dosh ,will they even address the other problem areas or trouser the money again ??
I know what I think !

"We want to keep Robin van Persie at all costs," Wenger said. "We depend on him offensively. "I have always supported him, even in the hardest times, and I hope he ends his career at Arsenal."
wonder what his next statement is going to be. just after he made the spain comments and they beat italy superbly.
wenger knows - how to talk shit all day.

Re: Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.
Some absolute pillock text/emailed/twittered in to ssn yesterday evening saying how people thought that we couldnt replace Bergkamp and couldnt replace henry and yet the club kept going strong and I'm thinking to myself.....how is it still going strong ??
We have won nothing for 7 fcuking seasons so how is that going well ? Are fans so stupid that they believe that, for a club of our stature, finishing 3rd of 4th is going well ?
Over the past few seasons we have lost henry, cesc, nasri and now rvp (this summer or next) and all due to a total lack of ambition in the club and that is unacceptable imo
Talking the talk about ambitions is all well and good but you have to back that up with actions and the majority of us have recognised for a long time that isnt on the clubs agenda
What message is that sending out to potential transfer targets ? The less established one's would probably still be inclined to come and they would view us as a stepping stone to a bigger club but the experienced quality proven players will not come to our club with fcuk all hope or ambitions to win trophies - if a club isnt offering you the possibility of competing at the top level and are average payers as well then why would you sign for them ?
What kind of message is it sending to our better players ? Sagna (in particular), tv5, mertesacker and to a lesser extend wilshire will surely be questioning their futures now and I would guess that podolski and giroud will be going through the fine print of their contracts at the mo to see if there is a loophole allowing them to back out of joining us
We are an absolute mess

To a certain extent I agree, Sammy. No player is bigger than the club. Players come and players go. As for RVP? Whilst he’s currently our best player, he’s not the greatest player we ever had. In his 8 years we have seen ONE exceptional season from him. ONE. Not denigrating his quality, but due to his constant injuries over that time we have gotten ONE full brilliant season out of him. Not a great return on our investment. We have no way of knowing if this season was just a happy blip and he might spend the rest of his career back on our treatment table again. I'd rather he stays as he is quality when fit, but he's not an irreplaceable loss tbh. Another great striker will come along.SammyDroppedHisShorts wrote:I am not at all bothered about this issue.

Could be worse!
BUT;
Looking at the bigger picture, it’s worrying (to say the least!) that we have now become a selling club that seems incapable of holding onto its best players. We are now in the habit of selling those best players; Cuntley, Henry, Vieira, Petit, Fabregas. We most probably will sell RVP (our Board will want the money to buy some more flats

We simply cannot win the PL or the CL without a core of top quality players. Either way, selling RVP or letting him leave on a free sends out a terrible message to all players, current or prospective; it says “we have no real ambition to compete with Manure, Citeh or the Barcawhores, we are second tier”.
