And again I will say that he wont need fulfill a need for us whether his transfer fee is 25m or 2.5m. Yes david silva is a quality player that would improve any team but, and imo the same applies to joe cole, we have far far bigger needs that are an absolute priority. Stop dreaming impossible dreams and start focusing on more realistic targets

I really don’t see it as an impossible target. We are one of the biggest clubs in the world and in the champion’s league unlike Citeh.augie wrote:mikeyb772001 wrote:they are getting him for 25 mil , dont see why we cant buy a player worth that much! If we had proven players like silva in the team DO YOU REALLY THINK ARE BIGGEST PLAYERS WOULD WANT TO LEAVE?
Let’s be realistic and buy some kids, sell cesc and loose the 4th place spot.

Mikey I agree 100% with what you are saying and I made that very point before henry left that top quality players will not stay with a selling club that is constantly in transition and now of course this also applies to cesc
I have to say though that classing ourselves as one of the elite clubs in the world is wishful thinking and a small bit outdated too. I am reminded of wenger's quote to old whiskey nose when he said "that everybody likes to think that they have the most beautiful wife" and us fans sometimes get fanciful notions above what is realistic and right now we no longer send fear and trepidation into the big clubs like we used to.

Yeh good point! Just wish i could buy the newspaper tomorow morning to a fantastic headline like "Gunners sign Torres for a shock fee of 30 mil" Not saying i wish for Torres but just want to have that buzz again of something exciting at the Arsenal.augie wrote:Mikey I agree 100% with what you are saying and I made that very point before henry left that top quality players will not stay with a selling club that is constantly in transition and now of course this also applies to cesc![]()

So am I but would you agree that we are taking the piss if we are only offering 10m for him ? I mean we are meant to be paying close to that for a 25/26 year old with only 1 season in france's top division so I dont see how insulting everton with a low bid can encourage them to do business with us

Dont the 2 posts above Augies tell you were we are today at Arsenal. You have Mickeyb saying i want a transfer headline that shocks and excites us all then you have Rigsby it would be great if we signed Jagielka!!! Not having a dig Rigsby but our expextations have been lowered so much in the last few years we all would be happy with pretty much any signings!!!!

Enjoy the season ticket mate! You might get to see Thierry in a Manchester United shirt at the Grove!mikeyb772001 wrote:Yeh good point! What has he actually done in the game to warrant being worth anywhere near that amount, except spend most of his career at small clubs and have one good season for Everton?

Two points about that hlebby - (1) I was initially comparing 10m for jagielka who has played in this country for a few seasons and in that regard is an established player to 10m for a polish/french centre back with one season in ligue 1 and no international experience at all so for me that doesnt quite stack up although you could def argue at this point in time that the polish/french guy is overpriced. (2) In all fairness 10m in todays market prices really gets you fcuk all - I could list a load of players that went for huge money and you would argue that they were overpriced but that only backs up my point that all players are overpriced nowadays and in that regard you have to pay the market price or you end up with fcuk all (hence our current situation I suppose

And he is a better keeper than Al and Flapstainaugie wrote:Two points about that hlebby - (1) I was initially comparing 10m for jagielka who has played in this country for a few seasons and in that regard is an established player to 10m for a polish/french centre back with one season in ligue 1 and no international experience at all so for me that doesnt quite stack up although you could def argue at this point in time that the polish/french guy is overpriced.
