The clubs spend 2 billion quid in the summer and the game is left in the hands of a corrupt mafia.

Incredible.

I thought Arseblog made an excellent comment on the use of VAR after yesterday’s shockingly poor use of the technology…

”Feels like VAR’s first rule (at least for PGMOL) is to try and find some reason to disallow any goal that is scored.

Is there any other sport that has introduced technology which is then used to find any possible way to eliminate the best thing about the sport?”

Don’t let the players get off scot free.

First off, if they don’t give refs a decision to make it can’t be got wrong. And EVERY single player cheats every game in one way or another.

Second, the reason WHam’s equaliser was disallowed (or at least, VAR was given the opportunity) was Mendy’s cheating. No one on MOTD will use that c-word, even though they’ve roasted VAR and the ref, and said that Mendy “stayed down”.

And I’m still convinced that players are being paid off all the time by betting syndicates. Why is no one ever suspicious about some of the “incredible” misses and dodgy passes? We’ve only been going a few weeks and there have been several already this season.
The problem is that the cheating by players is enabled by the corrupt officiating we see weekly. The reason the Villa players kept lunging in wrecklessly on Wednesday night was because they knew the prick in charge would let them get away with it. One of the other enablers to these corrupt refs is the media. The media use dumb phrases to justify the shitty refereeing - "he went down too easy there or "he's taking a risk by tackling like that", this helps justify any decision the ref comes to. Go watch that *word censored* Neville on sky and he'll spout on for hours about subjects within the game(usually without saying anything) but he'll never say a word against the refs and the FA, these people know where their bread is buttered and will never rock the boat.

Like him or not Declan Rice called out the officiating on twitter yesterday, I wonder how big a fine he will get.

To be honest it needs more players and managers to call out VAR and the refs, fans are ignored completely and the pundits are complicit.

For any change to happen with the officiating the PGMOL can no longer be allowed to hide in the shadows and do things behind closed doors with the FA protecting them.

As said above players are able to use the poor officiating to their own means but if enough of them start calling it into question then maybe things will change

Mike Riley has been replaced with Howard Webb as the referee overlord. Webb can't take up the role until later in the year though so Riley gets one last hurrah to continue the inept and corrupt practices.

For some reason I have doubts that things will be much different anyway. :rubchin:

I've said many times on here - it is in the interests of the FA to prove that it doesn't work! They never wanted it in the first place - most of the senior figures for years were completely against the idea, but the way the game was going they couldn't be the exception in the 'greatest league in the world'

Its application has been nothing short of disgraceful, but as a wise man once said....don't confuse a bad idea with a good idea badly executed.

VAR could work perfectly well if the authorities chose a progressive approach - abandon the silly drawing of microlines for offside and have a clear daylight rule, implement a referrals system like cricket (waste them at your peril rather than surround the ref every 5 mins asking him to review the monitor), set a maximum time period for the decision to be made otherwise the goal stands (that ridiculous incident at home to Brighton last season springs to mind). How often do you hear fans of other sports moaning about technology? And if you take that boring old argument about football being different then you should join the FA (not you g88ner just whoever feels that way!). In athletics you can run a whole 4x400 relay but if its proven the changeover was illegal or someone stepped out of the lane, you're out. There's a sport that stops less frequently than football and they manage it.

Unfortunately the game is governed by morons who want the system to fail. Bring back the tape instead of a crossbar and the FA would be happy

VAR was for clear and obvious errors. VAR was not intended for re-refereeing games when it’s not required. We have a bizarre situation where the refs are making the correct decision on the pitch and then it is being “corrected” into a clear and obvious error by VAR. It’s absolutely fucking insane. The reason for this you may ask? Mike Riley. The guy’s absolutely clueless. He’s full of his self-importance and is single handedly wrecking the game we all love.

Good post the only thing I would add would be to do what they do in DB's favorite sport Rugby where you can hear the video Ref making the decision so it is a lot more transparent. The FA would never go for that of course as it would show up how incompetent, corrupt, or biased some of these Refs really are. The one that really sticks in my mind this season was the hair pull in the Chav v Spud game. There is no reason why that got missed by VAR when every other person looking at the same pictures saw it.

All this clear and obvious bollocks - proof if any was needed that the whole implementation has been deliberately sabotaged. In every other sport it's used for the exact opposite reason i.e. when something isn't clear and obvious. When an umpire awards an LBW having not heard the ball brush the bat at 90mph - that's the whole point of the fucking tech i.e. when something is so difficult to make an exact call

The clowns that implemented VAR the way they have should be fucked off from football and never return

The Premier League is to review the controversial VAR decisions at Chelsea and Newcastle yesterday with referees' body PGMOL as a matter of priority.

Yet more VAR Bollocks and Incompetence in the BHA v Leicester game, it took a full 5 minutes for them to arrive at a decision to ask the ref to go look at the monitor. Who eventually ruled Off-side.

This really cannot continue, it's sucking the Life and Enjoyment out of the game.

There needs to be one of those National Petitions started where I feel certain the required 100,00 or is it 200,00 signatures? Require it to be raised in Westminster.

The FA needs total ripping up from root to twig and new people brought in.

There is either Gross Incompetence or Utter Corruption (perhaps both?).

I watched a Serie A game yesterday, it took less than a minute to give an offside decision and there were no lines shown either, they obviously are using it wrong over there, bloody continentals can't do anything right

There’s none of this shit in any other league in Europe.

I thought VAR would rid the league of refereeing incompetence, however what I failed to factor in was the fact that the very same incompetent referees would be the ones operating it.

Burn it fucking down the integrity of the league is in the shitter.
