The running down of the contract bothers me to be honest.

I see many posters stating that the Club should not have let that happen but I tend to disagree.

Last September RVP stated that there would be no discussion on a new contract until the end of the season. I fail to understand how it could have been handled differently. The club cannot force someone to sign a contract. Given his previous six years of averaging 20 games a year I would not have offered him a new contract as we were not getting value for money from him.

[quote="Old Oak Gooner"]Look, lets not kid ourselves chaps- this is a thinly disguised move by RVP to get a move to City- how much money do these footballers need, he has had one great season with the club and we thank him for that, we wet nursed him when he was constantly injured,-show some loyalty- he owes us and he 'loves the club', so sell the money grabber now :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

This I'm afraid is how I feel about the whole situation. Of course the club is to blame as well but how could they they have offered an injury prone player a 5 year contract 2 years ago?, In my opinion RVP simply wants more money and the medal argument just doesn't wash with me anymore. I've said it before and I'll say it again, footballers are all fucking mercenaries these days. Fuck the lot of 'em :banghead:

And how did he slag off the club? He has been more honest than Cesc was and certainly more honest than Wenger who was reassuring us that robin would stay, when he knew damn fucking well that he had no intention of staying, and then jokingly betting fucking icec ream cones on it.
Wenger is a dishonourable shit, a liar and a fucking hell of a lot more besides.
Fans have every right to slag down there club how much they like lack of ambition ect ect

But our club captain coming out with a statement like that after taking home over 15 mill in wages of our hard earned money we had just brought a German with over 100 caps and only 27 and The French league top scorer not bad for starters and I do not care what people say they are NOT a replacement for RVP . If I said what he did at my work I would be sacked blaming all but himself who does he think he is .
Giroud, is exactly that and that's why he was bought, do you really believe Wenger would have bought him if rvp had signed a new contract before the euros? because if you do then I pity your wit.

Hope he goes to City show his true colours and take 200 grand a week and stick it up his arse .
I do more as a replacement of Chamack and Park if and when RVP goes he will be replaced well I hops so :D .

I just had a phone call from my best mate. He does some work for a a family who use to be on the board.
He was told by this person that RvP was offered £130k, two year contract. His agent, (we all know who that is) told him to demand a FOUR year contract. This person quoted Wenger as saying he does not give long contracts to the over thirties players? Arteta anyone?
The person also said that Wenger is blaming the agent. Pffft.

I asked him to enquire whether RvP would remain in the country.

Don't shoot the messenger. To validate what is written I shall pm a mod, (shame it's not augie).

Edit @ 12:45 pm. He is DEFINITELY going abroad. Like I say, don't shoot the messenger.

IF true....and probably a massive if....it just backs up the argument that although the club is to blame, RVP is yet another money mad player. How much money do these people need? Take the 130k and if you're still at the top of your game in 2 years time, we'll look after you. Simple. But no, Arsenal's view isn't the same as Robin's in respect of ambition?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

the sad part is he could have made this announcement end of last season and not fter the awful performance at euros. now all hes done is reduce his value and the amount we can get for him.

What does it matter what we get for him 20p or 20million, it won't be invested in the squad.

Reckon any deal would have been for a fixed time period, plus the club would have the option to extend the deal every year after that, same as how we had a rolling one year contract with Bergkamp.

I think the "deal breaker" was the Van Persie just does not believe we can win the league any time soon under the current regime.
Money is a factor, but secondary.

Whatever happened to RVP's missus and his parents saying they wanted him to stay.....This whole thing has been Stage Managed, and yet again we've all been shat on from a great height. Bunch of *word censored* :cussing: :banghead:

I can't help to think wherever he ends, up being here or else wise that wouldn't it be typical if he gets injured in the first game!

In a way i am glad that van persie has come out and said what he has said we know where he stands and hopefully it will be sorted a.s.a.p so we can get on with the rest of our summer without this clouding the club, however i just cant help but have some resentment the way he has gone about it.
Perhaps i just had too many high hopes that i thought he was different and he would stay with us or perhaps i was just naive in thinking giroud and podolski where being signed and we was showing rvp we meant business.
wenger and the board are to blame in certain aspects of this, they just never seem to learn from their mistakes and it looks like that continues.
i'm not on the bandwagon that this is all wengers fault he can only do so much, at the end of the day whether the players are superstars or not i just want then to pull on the shirt be committed and give their all for the club, rather than for the past 4 years players going missing for half the season or whoring themselves out.
aspirations for the up coming season who the fuck knows one gurantee though at the end of the day we all want the best for arsenal football club :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

I just think the announcement could have shown more respect for the club and no one here knows what actually went on but I would have thought this announcement is not in the best interest of The Arsenal but only in the best interest of RVP.
Phew thought it was me against the world

And we lost 5 mill because of his big mouth!!!! he is calling the shots now instead of letteing his 'be loved club' earing some more money in compansation for his season, where he was injured!!!

idiot...
