That's just it, isn't it. We need a change in majority ownership. Wenger isn't able to manage this club to the best of his ability because he has to do it on a tight budget. But we can't enforce a change in majority ownership. All we can do is hope for a better replacement as sad as it sounds. We can vent at the players season after season and curse when they make big money movies but end of the day all we have is our voice during the games. The management isn't in the fans hands not until they're finishing 3rd and its considered a good season.k1tsun3 wrote:That's just it, isn't it. We need a change in majority ownership. Re: Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.
Probably get slaughtered out here by the anti-Wenger masses, but having had a day to think about it here's my take on it.
Van Persie wouldn't have signed a new deal last summer after having three good months, as evidenced by his refusal to even contemplate the prospect of negotiating one all season. Before that it would have been pretty crazy to renew his deal with 2.5 or 3 years left on it, it would have to be at least a 4-year contract on very high wages and at the time he was struggling to play 20 games a season.
Yes the bloke carried us this year and I can't fault his commitment on the pitch, but to me it seems like he's been more interested at getting himself in the shop window than anything else. Of course you can point out that the reason he wouldn't sign a deal last summer was our perennial lack of ambition and that we were haemorrhaging top players and yes, in a way it all comes down to the way the club is run, but the fact he is whoring himself out without a buyer says to me he doesn't give a fuck. You can tell yourself that at least we know now rather than the end of August but the sheer pettyness of his statement was thinly veiled by his portrayal of himself as a martyr. As captain if he truly cared about the club he would accept that yes some fans will hate him and some will insist he's moved for the money, but he was too selfish to do that. His statement was cheap, disrespectful and self-serving. He didn't do it for AFC, he did it for himself, don't kid yourself.
At the end of the day we've gone out and signed Podolski and Giroud, there's lots of work left to do before the season starts but things were finally moving in the right direction. Imagine that instead of signing one of those we instead signed a petulant 21-year old unknown quantity for £3.5m despite a questionable attitude and temperament. He would have said who's this nobody? Well 8 years ago that fucking nobody was him, and we stood by him and showed faith even through his constant lack of fitness. If he wanted to go then I understand that, but we deserved better than that shower of shite he released yesterday. The reason he released that statement was a) he's clearly trying to force prospective buyers' hands after a lack of bids, and b) doing that rather than a transfer request means he'll still be entitled to his loyalty budget.

Re: Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.
fair enuff kite. just hate rotterdam bashing!
as for all those slagging rvp off, do you all homestly disbelieve his comments re the ambition of the club (or lack of)?
we have all been saying that for years. now someone who actually knows, and he must know as its 100%certain future plans would have been discussed in contract talks especially with the club captain, has confirmed it.
even if the whole thing is a ploy and hes greedy, and he doesnt actually care about the clubs ambition, its still true what he has said, like it or not. he has confirmed what we have all (well those without the retard blinkers on) suspected that the current manager/board have no wish to change the malaise and decline of the club. if it wasnt true he wouldnt have siad it, and the club could easily refute it by saying they will be strengthening significantly. i find it damning that they have not said they will be strengthening significantly.

Re: Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.
I'm not saying it's not true, I'm just saying that RvP is using it as a smokescreen for his own motives and personal circumstances. I'm not defending the club's general approach (although as I set out above I don't apportion 100% blame to them for the contract situation), it's clearly getting us nowhere. But RvP has just thrown out a fishing line with the bait that the fans are most likely to bite on, and I'm not going to pretend that he's trying to do us this massive favour by releasing that statement as some people are kidding themselves.
I can oppose the way the board is run AND hold the view that RvP has selfishly disrespected the club which he clearly doesn't give a fuck about, the two aren't mutually exclusive.

To be fair to kite, he seems to come from Amsterdam or at least supports Ajax, and you can't ask a Ajax boy to like someone from feyenoord...the playing mantis wrote:fair enuff kite. just hate rotterdam bashing!

He is anyway due for one more long term injury.
Squeeze as much as possible from sheik(25mil+). Erect his injured bust in treatment room. Not sure if Wenger is going to buy other striker or attacking mid. It is also right time for club to sign that M'villa guy.

Re: Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.
There needs to be serious questions asked about how time and again this has happened with players vital to Arsenal's success - AISA and all other fan interest groups etc should be demanding an urgent meeting with the club to seek answers.
This is another example of one step forward and two back.

Maybe he is, maybe he isn't but the main thing for me is that somebody has said it and it is sparking this debate. It's already caused further press coverage highlighting of the problem by prompting the Usmanov statement.
I'm disappointed that RVP he is leaving as his ability is top draw, but it's just part of a much larger issue and I for one am glad he said what he said, regardless of his motives for doing so. We probably wouldn't have won anything if he stayed and I doubt sink to mid table obscurity now that he is off.

Spot on.
The masses here are slating the board and WEnger and a lot of the time they are probaly right...but on this occasion i cant help but feel rvp has some hiodden motives.
classic is look at the way Cesc left and look at the way RVp is trying to engineer his move out - you will see stark differences. RVP's statement has been written by some of his leagl men s- so he can show that he's the one who is doing us a favour, portray the club as not being ambitious - which is a load of bullshit really - me thinks he's been turned by his pathetic advisors.
hopefully we can sell him to a european club

if he does win a trophy somewhere else, like Chelsea or Man City or whomever offers you the most lucrative contract, remember what Alex Hleb said about the Champions League medal that he won while with Barcelona.Rohan wrote:He is anyway due for one more long term injury.Squeeze as much as possible from sheik(25mil+).
