OLIVIER GIROUD insists he is the man to fire Arsenal into title contention next season.
The Frenchman, 26, had a mixed first term in England after his £12million arrival from Montpellier — taking six games to get off the mark.

But he ended up with a respectable tally of 17 goals and he now cannot wait to get going again in August.

Giroud believes both he and his Gunners team-mates will be much improved next season.

He said: “I scored 17 goals in all competitions and gave 10 assists which, for a first season in England, is good. I am happy with the stats.

“However, I know I can do better and there is a lot of room for improvement.

“That’s why I’m already looking forward to next season. It is a massively important season with a lot of challenges.

I want to really establish myself with Arsenal and make a name for myself here.

“If we start better than we did this season, I know that we will compete for the title next year because we are used to playing together now and have improved as a team.”

Giroud copped it from all angles after his early-season flop — especially with ex-Arsenal hitman Robin van Persie banging in the goals immediately for Manchester United.

But he insists he always backed himself to come good at the Emirates.

Giroud added: “The Press has been tough on me at times but it’s normal. It’s part of the game.

“It’s been a tiring season as it was totally different to what I experienced before.

“It was my first taste of Champions League football, the first time I was playing with no winter break and obviously the pace and rhythm of the game is different here.

“The fact that I didn’t score straight away in my Arsenal career was not too bad. It made me work even harder, focused even more until finally it came at West Ham.

“I was never worried because any striker goes through times where you score less, where you make the wrong choices.

“I never said I wanted to replace Robin. He needed a few seasons to really be at his best here.

I hope that as early as my second season, I can play week in week out and keep scoring regularly because it’s key for a striker.”

++++

What a complete tool!!!

I would rather he admit that he can improve, show the desire to do so and be keen to establish himself in the team than think he has already done enough, sit on his laurels and collect his wages regardless.

If a number 1 striker does come in (I know, I know) then having him as a back up / sub could prove invaluable.

What's the matter with that?
It's the ''I'll fire Arsenal into title contention'' mainly, it's the 2nd season syndrome that is seemingly drummed into players of this ilk as if they're going to transform into a world class superstar when the evidence is there to see that Giroud is a lazy, useless flat track 'bully' of a player and I use the word 'bully'' in the sense that he scores his goals, in the main, against mediocre opposition.

Let's face it, it was only 9 short seasons when we went through the season unbeaten and now we're left with these ''jam for tomorrow'' statements that never come off and in perpetual seasons of the same sameness, the same statements, like Giroud's above  blah, blah, blah, and fucking blah... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

it's no longer about reality for some, read the phone book to Frank, all he hears:
Evil Wenger has stolen your breakfast, SilentStan is bullying the kids whilst Ivan shags your wife
Even reading the phone book is a better proposition than reading or hearing anything from Wenger or you for that matter!!! But very good by the way JD!!

:barscarf: Giroud is 70-1 to be top goalscorer on Betfair :barscarf:
there was quite a lot of money in my account
(despite laying ManUre to win the league and laying vanStaplecunt top scorer)
but I've committed it all to laying Liverpool (as champions, as top 4 and a bit as top 6)

may deposit a fiver and put it on Giroud top scorer...
(Frank may be miserable but at least he isn't delusional)

In every other era other than the second half of Lord Wenger's reign. People used to moan in the early 80s, but give me Paul Mariner over our useless hod carrier any day of the week

Hawley, Hankin......the list goes on. All of them would be an upgrade on the mighty man from Montpellier with the pace of a crippled tortoise and a sandwedge of a left foot. Nice header against Reading Reserves in the Capital One though.....
