That is an absolute truckload of money for a club like Southampton to spend and was spunked away irresponsibly with very little long-term planning, capped by firing a manager who had performed admirably and replacing him with some bloke who couldn't wait to piss off after a year or so.

Honestly can't pretend I feel sorry for them. Because they play half-decent stuff and have decent English players there they're extremely popular, but tbh I think a relegation battle is exactly what they deserve.

I like Southampton and have done for a number of years and it has absolutely nothing to do with the "half decent" football they play. I was a kid that starting supporting footie back in the mid 70s and even though I wasn't aware of any rivalry with AFC, I still remember watching and taking great delight in the minnows from Southampton turning over the rich c*nts from mancland 8) Southampton are and always have been a small club that have punched above their weight and they have never accepted that they were going to be relegated like some small clubs do, and instead fought bravely (and successfully more often than not) to remain in the top flight 8)

You say that 70m is a lot of money to spend in two seasons but is it really ? Surely tv money alone covers that (and has a nice chunk of money left over) and then the higher gate receipts and sponsorship deals would leave a significant pot of money available to spend on players ? Yes they barely made a penny on player sales but hadn't the sales of players like the ox, put them in the position where they didn't need to sell ? Southampton are not in a financial crisis (at least not to my knowledge) so they have tried to invest money to make their team and club stronger so they should be commended for that imo - selling players like rvp and replacing them with the likes of giroud is selling clubs mentality, but Southampton have looked at the quality of the league and recognised that shrewd investment could see them finishing higher than they ever have in the prem league and I tip my hat off to them.

I really hope they stay up but I really hope that they appoint a new strong manager and quickly because if not there wont be a player worth anything left by the time he arrives. All that being said, I think 15m for lambert is a great deal and they should absolutely take the money and run 8)

Sounds like you are starting to swallow the Arsene/Ivan/Stan spiel that spending more than a bag of magic beans is over spending. In this day and age they haven't overspent. Wanyama was highly rated as was Ramirez and Pablo'Danny'Osvaldo. It hasn't as yet worked out for 2 of them but their defence visibly suffered when Wanyama got injured.

You don't have to feel sorry for them but they deserve our sympathy more than the media orchestrated 'lets all feel sorry for Portsmouth'.

£15million Augie, think you might be out by about 7/8million there. But I hope you are right, will show the victims and Brenda as being clueless when it comes to value in the market. Anyone remember Aspas,Alberto both wonderful finds by Brenda and the Fenway sports group.

In answer John Botox w Henry what we are smoking at the grove, is a trophy something Brenda won't get you with kamikaze football.

Jesus Christ the pair of you  I'm talking about Southampton, I don't know why you're both bashing on about comparing them to us, its irrelevant.

And if you have actually bothered to read any of my posts you wouldn't throw around lazy shit like I'm buying into Gazidis' spin. Utter crap.

They are a mid-table club who threw away 70 million for barely anything in return and now they're going to be caught short when their best players are poached by the big clubs. Fuck all to do with Arsenal.

So the summer deal has been done- Wenger here for 3 years and now he is off to the World Cup.
See you back here on deadline day then.

expect a few last minute Kallstroms on 31 august then. He does it deliberately. Waits for all the other clubs to do their business, then picks up whoever is left over.

Wonder if he booked his flight and hotel well in advance to ensure he got a top, top quality place or just took a gamble and kept his fingers crossed that he will get a last minute knock down deal :rubchin:
