EMIRATES CUP THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I went yesterday and it was pretty much as everybody has said on here.

1.) Atmosphere was shockingly bad, maybe because I usually sit over by RedAction but was sitting up in the East Stand Upper yesterday. The mexican wave can fuck right off, what a joke. I'm trying to watch a game of football and my view is blocked by people jumping up and down every 2 minutes or by the guy standing up to record it. :? Thats £35 well spent by them I bet. Also, didn't get the whole clapping thing. It seemed like the clap they do @ Wimbledon when a player challenges a call. :? Celtic support was immense. More than 1 song like us and supported the team the whole way through. Nice to see when we started playing within no time, 'Stand up if you hate tottnum' was started.

2.) Chamakh looked good, although I feel he needs a 2nd striker up with him. He was good at taking the ball down, controlling it and holding it up but had no one to put the ball into. Also, he has a few tricks up his sleeve.

3.) Kos looked much better today than the other 3 pre season games I've watched. He looks much more confident and even showed signs of going forward just like TV :D

4.) Jack and Frimpong looked OK. Wilshere more so than Frimpong but I think there should be a place for both of them in this seasons squad.

5.) Good to see the Clock back where it belongs, if anyone is coming to the Blackpool game get there a bit early as there will be a little unveiling ceremony. With regards to renaming the stands, you wouldn't know the difference to be honest. There is nothing to distinguish your in the North Bank, East Stand or West Stand. :?

Overall, it was quite an okay day. I don''t think I'll go next year because I just couldn't stand the type of people around me. Knew nothing about football or the Arsenal. Just seemed to be some sort of corporate event.

because they had already sold tickets to the usual mexucan wave types that have never been before, they decided to leave the re-branding of areas till after the e******* cup
so dont worry, its just still there for the day trippers and they are the reason i cant bear to go anymore either.just listening to them say things like "whos the number....... or why isnt fabregas playing? or why cant we drink in our seats???

Dream on! He's here to stay and there's nothing we can do about it (except vote with our feet, which is exactly what I'm doing).

Give it a couple of years and Wenger will insist that Almunia has his own mural on the outside of the stadium.

I did not go to the emirates cup yesterday but watched in a pub near by, and when the gooners streamed out I had a thought whilst seing how many had armoury bags.

Is the cup as much about selling the new shirt as it is a warm up game?

The Emirates Cup is a blatant money-making exercise. The on-pitch "action" is mere detail.

I now treat the Emirates Cup in much the same way as the Carling Cup matches, in so much as although it is an Arsenal game it doesn't actually count for much.

A good opportunity for those casual fans or even red members who can't get to make it to many proper matches during the season for whatever reason. (a friend also pointed out that for a nuetral, £25 quid to see two games of football is pretty decent)

Its a friendly after all and an opportunity to see new signing(s) and to see if some of the young prospects have what it takes.

Yes, the club use it as a money making venture to sell the new shirts etc but tha alternative is a pre season in America or the far east, which as we know Mr Wenger does not see as being very productive in pre season preparations.
