BLACKPOOL GAME THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

By Chris Harris

Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song and Johan Djourou are back in the Arsenal squad for Saturday's clash with Blackpool.
The trio missed last weekend's trip to Liverpool through illness, a calf injury and a hamstring strain respectively but all three could start the opening match of the season at Emirates Stadium.
Robin van Persie was a late substitute at Anfield and could step up from the bench against Blackpool. But Denilson (groin), Samir Nasri (knee) and Laurent Koscielny (suspension) will not be available while Emmanuel Frimpong (cruciate) is a long-term absentee.

"Fabregas and Van Persie are back in the squad," :barscarf: :barscarf: confirmed Arsène Wenger at his pre-match press conference. "Robin was already last week, now they both are.
"Song is back in the squad too, Djourou is in the squad, but of course we lose Koscielny to suspension.
"Denilson is still working, he is back in normal training but he still needs to work on his fitness. He will need one more week.
"We lost unfortunately Nasri from last week because he has a cartilage injury and much more terrible for us is to lose Frimpong with a cruciate, done in training on Wednesday morning. He will be out for at least six months."
Nasri and Frimpong join Nicklas Bendtner (groin) and Aaron Ramsey (broken leg) on the sidelines and Wenger is hoping for better luck with injuries as the season unfolds.
"It's unfortunate because it is not muscular problems, it is joint problems and you cannot do anything about that," said the manager.
"Frimpong's injury is not controllable, Nasri's was on a tackle but he will [only] be three weeks."

I imagine the game will basically be Arsenal with about 75% posession but Blackpool's setup and shape will restrict us to playing all our passing football infront of them.

The seasiders will play with only one up front, yet still manage to create a few half chances.

Fuck knows whos gonna play and where, lets just hope we try and test the keeper rather than just pass it around the box!

Why do visions of Hull keep going through my mind??

1-0 up, bit of show-boating, switch off and - oh f**k me, we've just lost 1-2!!

I also have visions of the Hull game dancing in my mind - most probably because of Blackpool's result last weekend.

I honestly think that if we lose tomorrow, as a result of goalkeeping blunders, there could be a real vocal backlash (if not a full-on riot).

I really don't see AW ever stepping down. The only way I see him leaving is if we lose 'x' amount of games at the start of a season. Fortunately, we've a lenient schedule this time around, but the fans are definitely growing impatient (understatement of the year).

I don't know if anyone posted it, but it's very interesting

Holloway seems like a great character in english football, and when he says Wenger is his hero, it shows the impact Wenger had in English Football since he arrived.

Glad i'm not the only one. I'm not expecting a walk over at all. Some of the predictions i've seen flying around on facebook of 6 or 7-0 hammerings are setting us up for a fall. Obviously I hope i'm wrong & we do smash em 7-0 but I have visions of them stifling our attacks & they're nifty going forward, which with our defence could mean trouble.

I'm sticking by my prediction of last week, a hard fought 3-2 win.

Ideally would like us to win this one about 3-1 with their goal coming from an almighty fcuk up by below average al (what, again I hear you say  ).

Dont ever see us thrashing any team cos (a) we havent got the players to do so and (b) we simply do not have that ruthless killer attitude that teams like the chavs have :( Relly and truely in games like this we should be making statements of intent but more often we are inclined to go a couple of goals up and then totally switch off (refer to wigan away last season :x ). Really and truely I dont know if we are better struggling to win a game knowing that there is a real chance we can lose to a set piece (again  ) or coast into an early lead only to go lax and run the risk of blowing 3pts :? With this team you really do not know what will happen next

I cannot believe that I am travelling over to the game today and will still be looking at the same *word censored* in goals that I looked at for most of the last 2 seasons - despair doesnt even come close to what I am feeling

ive gone with a 4-1 win, but deep down i know its going to be a major struggle and it'll probably take a 94th minute winner. another stressful afternoon ahead

the best bit will probably be pre-match with the introducing of the new stand names and clock, and no more TWOY  :barscarf: :barscarf:
