As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Some of us really need to take their Arsenal Goggles off sometimes. First of all it was not a friendly game it was a qualification game for 2012 Euro.
As for the "If he loves Arsenal he should retire from international football"...
Have you got no spine? Maybe you have your own issues with your country and origins but most of us are proud of their origins and would be honored to wear the colors of their country!
I totally agree that considering his injury record, RVP should never play any kind of useless friendly game. But for an official game he's got every right to defend his colors and his homeland.
in that case let him fuck off back to Holland.
I don’t want a striker that gets injured every year. Sometimes at cost of playing for Holland.
I fucking hate the England squad so I really don’t give a fuck about Holland or any other country for that matter
Arsenal come first end of.
Yeah maybe he should just fuck off back to holland, and maybe Nasri should fuck off back to France and Cesc should fuck off back to spain. Because I can assure you that every single one of them is ready to play for their country any time, regardless the risks of being injuried.
You have your own issues with your national squad, and you don't give a fuck about holland or any other country, fine, but please show some respect and don't start insulting a player because he doesn't share your hate for his national side.
I think you're getting the wrong end of the stick Frenchie, the only reason that I and perhaps Mikey would like RVP to quit international football is because of his poor injury record. A few times, he has been injured on international duty meaning that he has missed huge chunks of the season, it would surely be beneficial to him and to us (The Arsenal) who pay his wages, that he stepped back and thought.... I must cut down on playing time.... I wonder how I could do this...... Then perhaps, just perhaps he would show some loyalty to the club that pays his wages, when he is fit and injured, and just quit international football, hence, cutting down on the chances that he could be (would be) injured...
No no it's ok Frank I didn't take it personnaly!
As I said I actually agree that RVP should never ever play any friendly again, as it's useless. His ankle injury made by Chiellini that took him out for most of the season was made during a friendly game and this, I agree, I find totally unacceptable.
As for RVP's loyalty towards the club, I don't see many players today that are as loyal as RVP towards Arsenal. The guy has always told he loved Arsenal, he's never made any fuss about signing a new contract, when he's on the pitch he always give 100%.
THere's tons of player in our side now days that are worse than RVP, that have their wages payed by Arsenal and it fans, that are far more lucky with injury than RVP, but they still don't put the slightest effort.
He is a decent player and definitely seems a nice guy.
All I'm saying is he's never given us one full season. The way other teams players pull out of int squads with the slightest things is what I expect of someone who's only started about 120 league games in 7 years or something.
As for not wanting to leave?
Why would he when we reward every injury hit season with a payrise

I don't know man. He doesn't strike me as that kind of guy. He wants to play here and he wants to win here.
He could get bigger money elsewhere with no shot at success.

Nasri , and Cesc don’t give us less than half a season. I am sure if they did they would think about who is paying there wages and damage they can cause by getting injured every year at the expense of playing for country
I support Arsenal I don’t support England or Holland or France or Spain.
The guy is a liability and he knows it. Surely he should retire from the national side. If not retire from domestic football.
He cant do both and its not fair on us , his team mates or the club.
Nasri hasn't played a full season for us so far and having seen him play for Marseilles before, I can assure you that he is quite injury prone as well. He played for France on friday and yesterday and almost got an injury yesterday vs. Croatia, but got lucky. Fabregas has played 20 games in EPL this year, which makes it 4 more games than RVP.
Seriously? With all the injuries we've had in the past years you find a way to single out RVP???

Not fcuking likely especially with his bullshit 1 up front tactical policy
There is nobody denying that rvp is a class player but lets loo at the production of the guy - coming into this season I believe that the stats show that he has averaged 16 league games per season since joining the club. He has never scored 20 goals a season and his constant injuries shows no sign of reducing. Why tie up so much in wages and plan around any player who misses soooo many games ? How can the team progress from there ? When fit rvp plays, end of story, so that guarantee's that the make up of the team cannot remain constant and cannot develop that level of continuity ?
Frenchgun is 100% right when he suggested that some fans take off their Gooner goggles when it comes to expecting rvp to give up playing for his homeland however I would also suggest that these fans should start looking at the bigger picture when it comes to concentrating on our club. Fans have had no problem calling for rosicky to be removed from the club cos of his injuries and I dont see how this can be any different - class striker yes but when he is sitting in the stands he is less use to the club than you or me
I get your point Augie, and I must say I'd get rid of Rosicky in a flash if I could! But the only difference is that when Rosicky plays, he's shit. When RVP plays, he puts them in! Most players in the PL have played twice more games than RVP this season but he's still the 3rd top scorer of EPL, and top scorer in our team.
Now the problem I have with selling RVP is this one. I guess all of us would want RVP AND another top striker bought. What you're saying is that the only way we get a top striker is we sell RVP, because Wenger will never want to kill Bender and Chamak's potentials.
Let's be honnest. If We sell RVP, Wenger will not buy Eto'o, Ibrahimovic and co. If we sell RVP Wenger will just buy another unknown and we have no way to know for sure that this unknown guy will be able to bag in 20+ goals a season, let alone 10 goals a season! We have no way to know that the new guy won't be as injury prone as RVP.
Unless we sign Michael Owen that will never happen

Don't get me wrong, I doubt he'd have the cheek to ask for one. More that our transfer fee shy board don't mind dishing out unnecessary payrises
He could get bigger money elsewhere with no shot at success.

Nasri averaged more than 30 appearances per season in his four yrs at Marseilles.
I can assure you those stats don't appear to bear out what you're saying

Well I remember him having a few injuries at the time, and he even got Menengitis in 2007 which kept hime out for a few months.
I'm sorry but if you're trying to prove me that Nasri is a solid player you're not very convincing...

Which is what I said on Page 5
I also explanded on that with the suggestion that IF RvP was sold I'm of the opinion that Bendtnar and Chamakh would then be our first choice strikers. It's all well and good saying that he should be sold and replaced with proven quality but how many on here believe the second part of that would actually happen
If I may interject. Does anyone know if RVP is actually injured or was just taken off as a precaution? I haven’t seen anything on .com and no definitive prognosis elsewhere. So as far as we all know he will be playing on Saturday until we hear otherwise. I think some of you have jumped the gun here slightly crucifying the guy and burying his career. Just chill Winston.

Its more a general view regardless of the outcome.
Even if he comes back fit , its only a matter of time until he is out again.
mikeyb772001 wrote:Without doubt RVP is arsenal through and through he loves the club and loves the fans. But again I keep saying it there is no room for sentiment!
If he was fit all season he would be the best striker in the prem and possibly for his position in the world. I couldn’t think of anyone better.
But never scored more than 11 league goals since 2004????????
This is alarming
If we had an average striker or even a dare I say it Bent , Defoe, Kevin Davies all 3 would of scored more than 11 league goals in 1 season.
We probably would of won the league.
These are just examples but the point remains the same. RVP for 11 goals and half a season or a striker that gets you 20+ goals and a whole season?
His injury history is very bad and if he carries on he will be in a wheel chair the time 2014 world cup arrives.
If it were me I would keep offer him a reduced contract or a pay as you go bonus.
You really think other teams will give us good money for a half season striker
Adebayor plundered well over 20 goals back in 08 and we came where in the league that year. Wrighty used to bang in 30+ a season and the year he got a title medal? It was about 10. Torres scored a shit load for Liverpool and where are his title medals?
Netiher half a season of RvP or a 20+ goal striker gives you a better shot at success. That comes from the state of the rest of the team, particularly defence.

I agree that the situation is Alarming.
But what can we do? The only reason I'd be ready to let RVP go is if we bought a replacement striker who would be at least as good as him! That's the Eto'o's, Villa's and Ibrahimovic of this world if you like.
Bent, Defoe and Kevin Davies would probably score us 11 goals a season but never would they make us win the league as they will never ever have the impact a player like RVP has on a game.
The problem I have is that if we sell RVP, we'll have a 19 yo unknown in replacement and then we'll only have our fingers to cross and hope he becomes the next TH14. That I can assure you!
I can also assure you that if we sell RVP and the replacement ends up not cutting the mustard, then we have Bender as No.1 striker for the rest of the season and I'd rather you give me a rope straight away!
