Hillier and Selly both had a lot going for them until they got bad injuries which blighted their careers, but at least they tried.
Hawley, Hanking,Howard,Mancini, now these were some truly shite players but at least they tried,
The sight of Denilson nonchalantly skipping after UTD players on a counter attack and being routinely overtaking by referees when getting back will haunt me forever.
Good Riddance, Denilson makes transfer request.

Re: Denilson
I expect players to put in a shift every game and when they don't it irritates the f*ck out of me, but it's no substitute for ability there has to be a balance...Herd wrote:Hillier and Selly both had a lot going for them until they got bad injuries which blighted their careers, but at least they tried.

Hillier and Selley would never have made into the first team at the level they did under any other manager than GG, his obsession for work rate over ability is what deteriorated the team from what was a class outfit in 90-91 to the predominantly workman like plodders he left us with..
Their careers went the way they did mostly because they just didn't have enough ability to play at the higher level, work rate only gets you so far...yes Selley was very unlucky with the two leg breaks but i think regardless his level was far below playing in Arsenal's first team as was Hilliers, as time proved...
With Denilson he has shown he isn't good enough for us...but there is no doubt as much as some don't want to admit it he has some ability, he showed that as far back as the CC final where as a teenager he more than held his own against a very strong Chelski midfield, but as with a number of our young players he just hasn't moved on since then, so he needs to be moved on...But his level is not that much below us and if he doesn't make it at a mid table Spanish or English club i would be very surprised....
Re: Denilson
BG I hear ya but in Hilliers case he could play a bit imo until he got injured ,but of course football was more physical then.
Denilson has real talent but looks no bottle determination concentration or application ,in fact he seems like he doesn't even want to be on the pitch .
I really had high hopes for him ,or perhaps I was high on Dope I'm not really sure anymore .
